T o initialize (format) your “W ALKMAN”
Y ou can forma t the built-in flash memory of yo ur W a lkman. If the mem ory is
forma tted, all files including the H elp guide (HTML documen t) will be erase d.
Be sure to verify the files stored in memory prior to fo rmatting, a nd then
export any necessa r y files to the hard disk o f your com put er or other device
beforeh and.
1 Pre ss and hold the BA C K/HOME butt on un til th e Home
menu a ppears .
2 Select [Setti ngs] – [ Co mmon Set tings] – [F or mat] –
[ Y es] – [Y es] in this o rder .
Press the / / / b utto n to select the item, and then pr ess the
but ton to confirm.
When initializa tion finishes, [Mem ory formatted .] appears.

Do not forma t the built-in flash memo r y using W indows Explo rer or M ac
Finder . I f yo u forma t the built-in flash memory , f ormat i t on yo ur W a lkman.
Precautions
About the headphones
A vo id playing the uni t at so loud a vol ume that extended p lay might affect yo ur hearing.
At a high volume outside sounds ma y become inaudible. A void list ening to the
unit in situations where hearing must not be impaired, f or example, while
driving or cycling.
As the sup plied headphon es are of o pen-air design, sounds go ou t through the
headphon es. Remember not to dist urb those close to you.
About the in-ear headphones
The earbuds seal your ear s. Therefo re, be awa re that ther e is a risk of dama ge to yo ur
ears or ear drums if strong p ressur e is ap plied to the earbuds, or the earb uds are
suddenly remo ved from yo ur ears. After use, be sure to take the earb uds off your
ears gen tly .

An alarm (beep) and warning [Check the vol ume level] are mea nt to pr otect your
ears when you ra ise the volume setting beyon d [14]. Y ou can cancel the alarm and
warning by p ressing a ny bu tto n.
Note
Y ou can turn up the vol ume beyond [14] after cancelin g the alarm and warning.
After the initial warning, the alarm and warning r epeat for every 20 cumulative ho urs
that the vol ume is set beyond [14]; when this happens, the v olume is cha nged to the
initial setting au toma tically .
If the vol ume is set beyond [14] and yo u turn off the W a lkman, the vol ume returns t o
[14] aut omatically .

If yo ur W a lkman does not function as expected, try the following steps to r esolve
the issue.
1 Fi nd the sympt oms o f the issue in “ T r ouble shooti ng ” in the
Help guide (HTML docume nt), and try an y corr ectiv e
actions l isted .

2 Co nnect y our W a lkma n to you r co mpute r to charg e the
batt ery .
Y ou may be able t o resolve some i ssues by cha rging the bat tery .
3 Pr ess th e RESET butto n with a

Before resettin g your W alk man, check tha t
no song, video , etc. is being play ed back.
Y ou can then reset the W al kman safely .
