8.3 Maintenance of the air filter
Dirty air filters and pre-filters reduce the power output of the engine. They increase fuel consumption
and therefore the pollutants in the exhaust. In addition they also make the starting process more
difficult.
If the chainsaw is in all-day use then both air filters (the pre-filter (if equipped) and the main air filter)
must be cleaned on a daily basis. It may also be necessary to clean them in between if the level of
dust is very high.
Carry out the following maintenance jobs regularly.
Removing the pre-filter
Position a screwdriver on the protruding tab
(e) of the pre-filter and pull out the pre-filter.
When inserting the pre-filter again
afterwards (after cleaning), make sure that
the thickened part (lug) on the pre-filter
engages in the housing cover (23) on the
side.
Removal of the main air filter
Take off the cowl of the chainsaw (Chapter 3.4)
Pull out the choke lever (7).
Take off the main air filter (32) by undoing the
two retaining screws (a).
To open the main air filter, slide the clamping
profile (b) to the side.
When the main air filter is subsequently refitted
(after cleaning), make sure that clean contact is
made at the carburettor
To clean, simply tap out the filter or carefully clean it with compressed air. When using
compressed air, always wear suitable eye protection (protective goggles) and do not apply the
compressed air too close to the air filter.
If they are more heavily contaminated, both filters can be cleaned with non-flammable cleaning
fluid (warm soapy water).
Both filters must be absolutely dry before they are refitted to the device.
The corresponding parts should be replaced immediately if the filter material is damaged. No
warranty claims can be accepted for engine damage arising as a result of inadequate care.
