10. MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
10.1 Defrosting the fridge cell
The refrigerator compartment is equipped with automatic defrosting. During normal fridge operation frost
forms on the rear wall while the compressor is working, and melts when it is not working. While the
compressor is not working, the accumulated frost on the rear wall melts and the water runs off into the
opening for this purpose at the bottom of the cell. It is then channelled into the tray on the compressor,
from which it evaporates.
Attention
the formation of ice on the rear wall can vary depending on changes in climate conditions (temperature
and humidity), how often the door is opened, the operating temperatures of the machine, the amount of
fresh food contained (in particular fruit and vegetables).
10.2 Defrosting the freezer
The freezer compartment needs to be defrosted manually. You are recommended to carry out defrosting
every 6 months or whenever the thickness of the frost or ice on the shelves reaches 7 mm. Remove the
plug from the electricity supply (or turn of the mains switch). Open the door of the freezer and remove all
frozen foods from the drawers, and protect them from thawing during cleaning (frozen foods will not heat
up too much during defrosting of the freezer if they are covered with a thick cloth and stored in a cool
place). Leave the freezer door open to allow the frost to melt. Pull out the drain (Fig. 14 pos. 1) for
channelling the defrosted water, rotate it 180° and secure it as indicated in Fig. 15. Position a container
(Fig. 15 pos. 2) (not supplied) under the drain to catch the water from the defrosting. Place a dish under
the defrosting channels. When the ice melts, clean and dry the surfaces and parts of the freezer
compartment. At the end of defrosting, extract the drain (Fig. 14 pos. 1) for channelling the defrosted
water, turn it back 180° and replace it in its original position. Close the door of the freezer compartment.
Reconnect the plug (or set the mains switch to ON). Turn the fridge freezer back on using the selector on
the control panel.
Attention
During defrosting of the freezer, open the fridge door as little as possible to avoid sudden increases in
the temperature inside the fridge.
