1. Introduction

Congratulations on purchasing your new device. You have chosen a high-quality
product. The operating instructions are an integral part of this product. They contain
important safety information and instructions for use and disposal. Before using the
product, please familiarise yourself with all operating and safety instructions. Only
use the product as described and for the specified applications. Keep these oper-
ating instructions in a safe place. If you give this product to third parties, ensure that
you also hand over all the documents.

This camera is an entertainment electronics device and is intended
for recording digital images and videos.
The device is not intended for commercial or industrial use.
Note that no liability will be accepted if the device is not used for its
intended purpose:
Do not modify the device without our express agreement and do
not use any accessories that have not been supplied or approved
by us.
Only use replacement parts or accessories that we have supplied
or approved.
Comply with all the information in these operating instructions, es-
pecially the safety information. Any other use is considered im-
proper and can cause personal injury or property damage.

Check the camera prior to use. A damaged or defective camera
must not be used.
This device is not suitable for use by people (including children)
with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or with in-
sufficient experience or knowledge unless properly supervised by
a person responsible for their safety or these people have been
instructed in how to use the devices safely and have fully under-
stood the possible dangers.
Children must be supervised to ensure they do not play with this
device. Children must not be allowed to use this device without
supervision.
Cleaning and user maintenance must not be carried out by chil-
dren.
Keep the device and its accessories out of the reach of children.

Risk of choking and suffocation through swallowing or inhaling small
parts or plastic wrap.
Do not store any of the packaging material used (bags, polysty-
rene, etc.) within the reach of children.

Do not let children play with the packaging. Packaging material
is not a toy.

If the device produces smoke or unusual noises, switch it off
immediately, remove the battery and any connected cables.
Stop using the device until it has been checked by a quali-
fied person.
Never open the camera. There is a risk of electric shock.
The camera should only be repaired by an authorised repair
workshop or contact the Service Centre to avoid any hazards.
Contact the Service Centre immediately if you discover that the
device has been damaged during transport. Do not, under any
circumstances, make any unauthorised modifications to the de-
vice and never open a component yourself.
WARNING!
Risk of injury!
Insufficient distance when using the flash can damage the eyes.
Do not trigger the flash too close to people's eyes. This can dam-
age the eyes of the person being photographed.
Stay at least 1 metre away from children when working with the
flash.
Viewing strong light sources can damage the eyes.
Never look directly at the sun or any other light source.

NOTICE!
Possible damage to the device!
Risk of damage to the device due to improper use of the device. Do
not expose the device to extreme conditions.
Store in a dry place
This camera is not waterproof and will therefore not function
properly if it is immersed in water or if liquids penetrate into the
interior of the camera.
The camera may not be exposed to water droplets or spray. Do
not place any objects filled with liquids (e.g. vases) near to or on
the camera.
Keep away from damp, salt and dust
Wipe off salt and dust with a light, damp cloth if you have been
using the camera on the beach or at the seaside. Carefully dry
the camera afterwards.
Keep away from strong magnetic fields. Never place the camera
too close to devices that generate strong electromagnetic fields,
e.g. electric motors. Strong electromagnetic fields may cause the
camera to malfunction or interfere with data recording.
Avoid excessive heat
Do not use or store the camera in sunlight or at high temperatures.
This can cause the battery to leak or the housing to deform.
Avoid extreme fluctuations in temperature
If you take the device from a cold environment into a warm one
or vice versa, drops of water can condense on the outside and in-
side of the device that can cause malfunctions and damage the
device. Wait until the device has reached ambient temperature

before switching it on. Using a carrying case or plastic case of-
fers a certain amount of protection against fluctuations in temper-
ature.
Do not drop the device
Jarring or vibrations resulting from a fall can cause malfunctions.
Loop the carrying strap around your wrist when carrying the
camera.
Keep the camera away from open flames and fire, for example
candles.
Never use the camera near flammable gases. Risk of explosion
and fire.
Do not remove the battery while data is being processed
Switching off the power supply while image data is being saved
to or deleted from memory cards can result in data loss or dam-
age to the internal circuit or the memory.
Treat the lens and all moving parts carefully
Do not touch the lens or the lens barrel. Take care when handling
the memory card and the batteries. These parts are not designed
for high levels of stress.
Batteries
At low temperatures the capacity of the batteries can be dras-
tically reduced. When shooting in cold weather, keep a warm
spare battery ready for use.
If the contacts on the battery are dirty, clean them with a clean,
dry cloth or use an eraser to remove residues.

Memory cards
Switch off the power supply and wait until it is fully switched off
before inserting or removing the memory card. Otherwise the
memory card may become unstable. Memory cards may warm
up during use. Always take care when removing the memory
cards from the camera.
Memory cards are consumables and must be replaced after
prolonged use.
The image/recording may become faulty after a longer pe-
riod of use. Therefore, check the recording performance of
the card at regular intervals and replace it as necessary.
3.1. Information regarding batteries
Only use the supplied battery (NP-45) in the camera.
Only charge the battery in the camera using the supplied USB
cable.
Do not cover the camera while charging.
Observe the following general instructions for handling batteries:
At low temperatures the capacity of the battery can be drastical-
ly reduced due to the slowing of the chemical reactions. When
shooting in cold weather, keep a second battery in a warm place
(e.g. trouser pocket).
Keep batteries away from children. If a battery is swallowed,
consult a doctor immediately.
The battery must not be forcibly inserted into the camera.

WARNING!
Risk of explosion!
There is a risk of explosion if batteries are handled incor-
rectly. Only replace batteries with the same or an equivalent
battery type (NP-45).
Before inserting the battery check that the contacts in the device
and on the battery are clean and, if necessary, clean them.
Always insert only the supplied battery.
Pay attention to the polarity (+/–) when inserting the battery.
Store the battery in a cool, dry place. Strong direct heat can
damage the battery. Do not expose the device to sources of in-
tense heat.
Do not throw the battery into a fire, and do not short-circuit it or
dismantle it.
Never expose the battery to excessive heat such as direct sun-
light, fire or similar.
WARNING!
Risk of chemical burns!
There is a risk of chemical burns if a leaking rechargeable
battery is removed incorrectly.
Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and mucous membranes. In the
event of contact with battery acid, rinse the affected areas imme-
diately with plenty of clean water and consult a doctor immedi-
ately.
Remove a leaking battery from the device immediately. Clean the
contacts before inserting a new battery. Wear appropriate pro-
tective gloves. Risk of chemical burns from battery acid!

Always remove a flat battery from the device. There is an in-
creased risk of leakage with flat batteries.
If the device is not going to be used for long periods, remove the
battery.
Avoid impacts or shocks on the battery, do not crush it, do not
drop it.
DANGER!
Risk of electric shock!
There is a risk of electric shock due to live parts.
Never, under any circumstances, attempt to open and/
or repair the camera yourself. There is a risk of electric
shock! Internal components may only be inspected, mod-
ified and repaired by qualified personnel. Take the prod-
uct to an authorised service centre for inspection.
3.2. Information regarding the display
Do not allow any objects to fall onto the display.
Do not place any objects on the device.
Do not touch the display with sharp objects.
Do not scratch the display with finger nails or hard objects.
There is a risk of injury if the display breaks. If this occurs, wear
protective gloves when wrapping up cracked parts and send
them to your Service Centre for proper disposal. Wash your
hands with soap afterwards, as the risk of chemicals escaping
cannot be excluded.

3.3. Personal rights
When using the camera, you must observe the following information:
In principle, every person owns their own image. According to cop-
yright law, images may only be published without the consent of the
respective person if the person appears only as an accessory to a
landscape image or any other place. The answer to the question of
whether a person is an accessory depends on the individual circum-
stances. For reasons of legal certainty, persons should be informed
of the photography in all cases in which images are taken from
which persons can be identified.

8. Getting started
8.1. Inserting the battery
Only use the supplied lithium-ion battery to use the camera. To insert the battery,
proceed as follows:
Switch the camera off, if necessary.
Slide the battery compartment 17 in the direction of the arrow and open the
cover.

Insert the battery in the battery compartment as shown, until the orange lock
clicks into place and the battery is secured.
Close the battery compartment again.
8.2. Charging the battery via USB
You can charge the battery either with an appropriate USB power supply (5.0 V
1.0A) or via the USB port on your PC or another device with a USB port. The
battery must be inserted in the camera for charging.
Plug the USB cable into the USB socket 18 on the camera.
Plug the other end into an appropriate USB power supply (not included) and
plug it into the socket.

Or
Connect the camera to the USB port on your computer or another device with a
USB port using the supplied USB cable.
The camera operating LED flashes during charging. The operating LED turns off once
charging is complete. If the operating LED flashes quickly, check the battery and the
connections and reconnect the camera again.
If the operating LED continues to flash quickly, contact the Service Hotline.
The battery is not charged when purchased.
Charge the battery before using the camera.
8.3. Attaching the hand strap
Guide the narrow end of the strap through the eye 19
for the hand strap and pull the thicker end of the hand
strap through the narrow end as shown.
NOTICE!
Possible material damage!
Improper use or attachment of the hand
strap can damage the device.
When carrying the camera with the
hand strap, ensure that the camera
does not bump into anything.
When attaching the hand strap, place the camera on a
sturdy surface so that it cannot fall and become dam-
aged.

8.4. Inserting and removing SD cards
If no card is inserted, the images/recordings are stored on the internal memory.
Please note that the internal memory is sufficient only for few images/recordings.
Therefore, use an SD card to increase the memory capacity.
We recommend using a "Class 10" SD card.
8.4.1. Inserting memory cards
Slide the battery compartment 17 in the direction of the arrow and open the
cover.
Insert the card in the card compartment with the contacts facing the display 5.
The card must be pushed into the card slot until it clicks into place.
Close the battery compartment again.

To remove the card, open the battery compartment and press the memory card
slightly into the card slot to release the lock. The card is pushed out a little and
can be removed.
Memory cards are consumables and must be replaced after prolonged
use.
The image/recording may become faulty after a longer period of use.
Therefore, check the recording performance of the card at regular intervals
and replace it as necessary.
You will find information regarding the write protection of your SD card in
the relevant operating instructions, if required.
9. First steps
9.1. Switching on the camera
Press the ON/OFF button 13 to switch on the camera.
The lens 3 extends, the operating light 6 briefly lights up green and the display
5 switches on. The camera is now in shooting mode.
If the camera does not switch on, check whether the battery has been in-
serted correctly and whether it is charged.

9.2. Switching off the camera
Press the ON/OFF button again to switch off the camera.
9.3. Setting the language and date/time
When switching on the camera for the first time, you are prompted to set the lan-
guage and time.
9.3.1. Setting the language
Select the required language with the navigation buttons 10 A and 10
D.
Confirm your selection with the OK button 10 B.
Once the language has been set, the camera automatically switches to the menu for
setting the date and time.
9.3.2. Setting the date and time
Select the appropriate value for the date or time with the and buttons.
Press and hold the buttons to scroll through the digits more quickly.
Switch to the next entry with the 10 E and 10 C buttons.
Confirm the settings with the OK button 10 B.
In addition to the date and time, you can also set the date format. The following op-
tions are available:
• YY/MM/DD (Year/Month/Day)
• MM/DD/YY (Month/Day/Year)
• DD/MM/YY (Day/Month/Year)
The camera can only display the date and time in playback mode. This in-
formation is not printed. The date and time are only then printed if there is
a "date stamp" on the images (see “14.2. The shooting menu” on page
60).

9.4. Power-saving function
If the camera is not used for 60 seconds, the camera switches off. You can also set
the automatic switch-off time to 3 or 5 minutes or deactivate it.
The power-saving function is not active:
• while recording audio and video clips.
• while playing back images, video clips or audio recordings.
• while the camera is connected to another device via the USB connection.
9.5. Shooting and playback mode
When the camera is switched on, shooting mode is enabled: You can take photos
immediately. You can also record audio and video clips.
In playback mode, you can play back, edit and delete photos, audio and video
clips.
To set the playback mode, press the button. The playback icon appears at
the top left of the display. The most recently taken image is displayed.
To return to shooting mode, press the button again, or press the shutter re-
lease.

11. Starting to take photographs
The following descriptions relate initially to the basic settings.
11.1. Setting the shooting mode
When the camera is switched on, shooting mode is enabled automatically. The icon
for the most recently used mode appears in the top left of the display, e.g. for
Program shooting mode.
If playback mode is enabled rather than shooting mode, press the 11 button.

11.2. Tips for capturing good images
Move the camera slowly so that the photos do not become blurry. Do not move
the camera when pressing the shutter release. Do not move the camera immedi-
ately after pressing the shutter release.
View the subject on the display before pressing the shutter release.
Check the angle when the subject is lit from behind. Change position to reduce
the background lighting.
Pan the camera slowly to create good video clips. Video recordings will be-
come blurry and hazy if you pan too quickly.
11.3. Taking a photograph
If you can see the image on the display, first press the shutter release 14 down
a little.
The green focus fields (AF fields) appear red when the autofocus cannot focus.
The values for the shutter speed, the aperture and the ISO value appear.
Press the shutter release down fully to take the image.
The photos will be saved as JPEG files.
If the image is likely to be blurry, the icon also appears. In this case,
you should hold the camera still or use a tripod.
You can make various settings relating to the image via the function menu,
see Page 45.
To take a close-up, select the macro focus setting with the button 10 E.

11.3.1. Using the digital stabiliser
The digital stabiliser enables better photographs in poor lighting conditions by re-
ducing the risk of the image becoming blurred.
From the camera menu, select Stabilizer and activate or deactivate the func-
tion here.
11.3.2. Using the fl ash
If there is insufficient light for the photo, the integrated flash can provide the addi-
tional light required.
Press the flash button 10 D repeatedly to select the following flash settings:
AUTO: The flash is activated automatically when the shooting condi-
tions require additional lighting.
Flash is triggered before the actual flash; used to prevent "red-eye"
effect. The camera detects the brightness of the subjects and only
flashes if necessary.
Flash is always on
"Slow sync": The flash is synchronised with a slow shutter speed.
Flash is always off
The flash only works in single shot and self-timer mode. It cannot be used for image
sequences or video recordings.
Using the flash increases the power consumption. If the battery is almost flat, the
flash takes longer to charge.

Risk of glare!
Do not use the flash to take close-ups of people and ani-
mals. The extreme brightness can dazzle and damage the
eyes.
Maintain a distance of at least 1 metre.
11.3.3. Zoom – enlarging or reducing
This camera features both an optical and a digital zoom. Optical zoom is achieved
through the lens setting and digital zoom is enabled via the settings menu.
Press the zoom rocker towards W / T 7.
The bar that appears represents the zoom setting .
W: The image is zoomed out ("wide angle"); you can capture a larger section.
T: The image is zoomed in ("telephoto"); you can capture a smaller section.
If the marking is on the left side of the bar, the optical zoom is in
use.
If you press again, the digital zoom is switched on automati-
cally. You can continue to zoom in 11 steps.
Digital zoom must be enabled in the settings menu for this!
With the digital zoom, the image section is enlarged by interpolation; the
image quality may suffer somewhat as a result.

11.3.4. Setting the focus mode
This function enables you to specify the type of focus when taking a photo or record-
ing a video.
Press the macro button 10 E repeatedly until the icon for the required focus
mode is displayed.
Confirm your selection with the OK button 10 B.
The camera features five different focus modes:
AF – Auto focus
With this setting, the camera automatically focusses on objects.
– Macro
This mode is especially suitable for close-ups. With this mode, you can use the fixed
focus to capture details and take sharp photos at closer distances. Approximate fo-
cus area: from approx. 5 cm to 50 cm.
– Super Macro
This mode is especially suitable for close-ups. With this mode, you can use the fixed
focus to capture details and take sharp photos at closer distances. Approximate fo-
cus area: from approx. 3 cm to 30 cm. You cannot zoom in when super macro is set.
– Infinity
The "Infinity" setting focusses the camera on subjects that are very far away.

MF – Manual Fokus
Activating manual focus causes a box to appear in the centre of the display that
you can use to adjust the focus of the image using the or navigation buttons.
Once you have found the correct setting, confirm the selection with the OK button.
11.3.5. Setting continuous shooting
This function can be used to take a series of photos in photo mode.
Press the 10 C button repeatedly until the icon for the required burst photo is
displayed.
Confirm your selection with the OK 10 B button.
Single Shot: Burst not set.
Burst: With this setting, the camera takes a photo sequence for as
long as the shutter release is pressed and held.
Speedy Burst: With this setting, the camera takes a series of 30 im-
ages.
GIF Capture: Use this feature to take a predefined number of im-
ages in a defined period of time. These images are compiled to cre-
ate a moving GIF file and are not saved individually. The settings are
confirmed once you press the OK button in this mode.
11.3.6. AE/AF – Autofocus lock
The autofocus lock fixes the current focus setting. Depending on the menu setting, the
exposure setting is also locked.
The AE/AF autofocus lock is used, for example, when you want to photograph
something several times that does not move or always remains at the same distance.
To activate the autofocus lock, press the AE/AF LOCK 10 A button.

A lock symbol appears beside the AF indicator in the display when the autofocus
lock is activated.
The autofocus lock is deactivated if:
• the zoom control (7) is used
• the AE/AF LOCK button is pressed again
• one of the 11 , 12 , 9, 8 or ON/OFF 14 buttons is pressed.
11.4. Recording video clips
Press the button to start the video recording immediately. The recording time
and remaining time appears in the display.
Press the zoom rocker W / T7 to change the image section.
Press the  10 button to pause the recording.
Press the button again to resume the recording.
To end the recording, press the 9 button again.
The digital zoom is not available for recording video clips. No sound is re-
corded while the zoom button is pressed. The microphone is active during
the video recording and records the sound as well.
The video clips are saved with sound as AVI files.

The functions menu allows you to quickly perform the essential settings for a record-
ing, without the need to open the main menu.
The functions available for the camera settings are displayed in the left menu bar.
The lower bar displays the possible settings for a particular function.
Press the 12 button to open the menu.
Select the function that you would like to change, e.g. the resolution setting, with
the or 10 buttons.
Select the desired setting, for example the resolution 20M, with the or

11.5.1. Exposure compensation (EV)
Correcting the exposure value (EV) enables you to adjust images that would other-
wise be to light or too dark.
There are 12 settings to choose from between -2.0EV and +2.0EV. A bar for adjust-
ing the exposure appears on the display.
Use a positive value in poor light conditions and a negative value in strong light.
Do not use the exposure compensation when the subject is in a very bright or dark
area or when using the flash.
The compensation set is displayed as the exposure setting on the display.

12.4. Deleting photos
In playback mode, select an image with the or buttons.
Press the 12 button to display the menu options for the delete function.
The "Delete" prompt appears on the display. Select "Single" with the or
buttons to delete the selected image.
Press the OK button and confirm the prompt.
To cancel the function, select "Cancel" and confirm again by pressing OK.
The next image is shown on the display.
Protected files cannot be deleted. In this case, the message "File locked"
appears on the display.
If a memory card is inserted, you can only delete the files on the memo-
ry card.
If the memory card is locked, you cannot delete the files on the memory
card.
It is not possible to restore a file that has been deleted. You should there-
fore exercise caution when deleting files.

13. Video editing
You can subsequently trim a recorded video using your digital camera.
The camera features an integrated editing function for this purpose, proceed as fol-
lows:
In playback mode, select the video you want to edit.
Start the video and stop it at the desired trim position.
Now press the 12 button to open the video editing menu.
Select the option (start point) with the  10 buttons.
You can subsequently move the trim marker using the  buttons. The trim
marker advances 1/30 of a second with every press of the b button.
Select the option (end point) with the  buttons.
You can move the trim marker to the desired position using the  buttons.
The trim marker advances 1/30 of a second with every press of the b button.
The (preview) menu item allows you to watch the trimmed video.
Select the (save) option to save the video.
Use to exit the video editing menu without saving your changes.
Only one section in a video file can be highlighted. The highlighted section
is kept and the rest is deleted. It is not possible to delete a section in the
middle of the video.
The edited video is saved as a new, additional file. The original file is re-
tained.

This setting changes the light sensitivity of the sensor. A
higher value increases the light sensitivity but generates
more noise, which can have a negative impact on the
image quality. Therefore, set the ISO value to the lowest

ISO 100 – sets the sensitivity to ISO 100.

For certain scene conditions, you can use the preset shooting modes. This eliminates
the need for manual setting.

tings here. In this case, confirm the prompt by pressing

return to the playback mode without making changes.

Setting Meaning
Voice Memo You can save a voice message for each photo taken.
The maximum length of the voice message is 30 seconds. The
time remaining is shown on the display.
If there is already a voice message for the selected photo, it is
overwritten.
Filter Effects The filter effect function is only available with other artistic ef-
fects on images with an aspect ratio of 4:3. The images edited
with this function are saved as new files.
Soft: The image is given a soft focus effect.
Color Emphasis: Retains the colour tone while reducing the
rest of the image to black and white.
Vivid: The image is given more contrast and saturation to
highlight more vivid colours.
Miniature Effect: Parts of the photo are blurred to give the
image a miniature model effect.
Astral: Light areas are filled with stars.
Impressive Art: The image is given a dramatic contrast.
Painting: The image is converted into a line drawing with
colour accents.
Negative: The image's colours are inverted.
B&W: Black and white
Mosaic: The image is displayed in pixelated form.
Sepia: The image is converted to sepia tones.
Trimming This function enables you to select a section of an image and
crop the image to this size (see also “15.13. Trimming a pho-
to” on page 90). The border not visible on the display is
deleted.
You can save the corrected file. A new file is created and the
original file is retained.

DPOF DPOF stands for "Digital Print Order Format".
If you would like to have your images developed by a pho-
to studio or printed on a DPOF-compatible printer, you can
specify the print settings for images here. With a DPOF-com-
patible printer you can print the pictures directly without trans-
ferring them to the computer beforehand.
You can print all photos, a single photo or reset the DPOF set-
tings.
Set the number of copies for each photo with the or
10 buttons.
Confirm the selection with the OK button 10
Set the options for the "Date" and "Info" in the follow-
ing window.
Switch the date stamp on or off with the 12 button.
You can define up to 9 copies with DPOF. If you set
0 copies for an image, the DPOF setting deactivates
automatically.
Copy Use this function to copy images between the internal memory
and the memory card.

Setting Meaning
Movie Paste You can use this function to combine two videos with the same
specifications (video resolution and fps).
First select a video.
Press MENU to access the playback menu.
Select Movie Paste. The videos with the same specifica-
tions as the original video are displayed on the LCD mon-
itor.
Use the or buttons 10 to search and the or 
button to mark or remove a mark from the second video.
Press the OK button and select Yes to add it to the end of
the original video and to overwrite it.
The total length of the combined video may not ex-
ceed 30 minutes.
Once the two videos have been combined, the sec-
ond video is no longer available as a separate file.
Face Retouch This function can only be used on photos that have been tak-
en with facial recognition active (for example when shooting
mode is active Portrait.)
If the image contains more than two faces, one face must first
be selected with the arrow buttons.
The following options can be changed:
Smoothing, Brighten, Enlarge Eyes. The degree of
change can be selected from "0" (no change) to "3" (signifi-
cant changes).
Only one face can be retouched. All functions are reset to 0 if
you exit the Face Retouch menu, no matter whether you save
the image or discard the setting.
Images containing retouched faces are saved as new images
and can be edited further with this function.

15. Using different shooting modes
15.1. Using the special effect mode
Press the 8 button and select Art Effect in the photo shooting menu.
Then the Shooting Menu also includes the item Art Effect under shooting
mode.
The following settings are possible:

look like a miniature model. We recommend
taking the photo from a high angle for best

Astral Star-like reflections are added to the image.

15.2. Using child mode
Children are particularly difficult to photograph as they are almost always moving
and thus present quite a challenge. Use child mode to take pictures of children.
This mode uses a faster shutter speed and always focusses on the moving subject.
In shooting mode, select the option .

15.3. Using sport mode
Sporting action can often only be captured using a high shutter speed; sport mode
is particularly well suited to this. In this mode, the camera takes a photo with an ex-
tremely high shutter speed.

15.4. Using party mode
Party mode is ideally suited to taking photos of groups.

If you use this mode, the camera detects skin-coloured areas of a subject, e.g. the
face, and edits the image so that the skin appears softer.

15.6. Using the time lapse function
You can use this function to take mul-
tiple photos in a predefined time in-
terval. These photos are then com-
bined to make a video.

The display switches off between shootings to save power; only the green
operating indicator flashes.
The video is created with a frame rate of 10 bps i.e. 10 photos correspond
to one second of video.
In order to ensure that the photos are always taken at the same angle and without
any blurring, we recommend the use of a stand or tripod. To ensure the maximum
possible shooting time, the display is switched off between individual shots.
15.7. Using panorama mode
This function enables you to create a
panoramic image. To assist you, the
camera provides guide graphics and
an automatically controlled shutter re-
lease.
In shooting mode, select the option

When you start taking the picture, a white cross appears in the middle of the dis-
play. In addition, a yellow horizontal or vertical line, depending on the orien-
tation of the display, also appears in the centre of the display to help align the
camera.
A recording bar appears at the bottom of the image during the capture.
For a perfect panoramic shot, the yellow guide line must always run horizontally
or vertically through the positioning cross.

Once the recording tool bar is completely full, the capture is complete and the
image is saved.
The following settings are predefined for the panorama function and can-
not be changed:
• The flash is always switched off.
• The self-timer is switched off.
• Autofocus is active.
• The autofocus area is set to "Large".
Observe the tips on the display when error messages occur.
15.7.1. Notes and tips for the panorama function
• The size of the final image may vary depending on the panorama angle and the
result of the combination, as well as the degree of camera shake.
• We recommend using a tripod to stabilise the camera and also to help move the
camera slowly during the capture.
• If you select From Top to Bottom or From Bottom to Top in 360° panora-
ma mode, we recommend turning the camera by 90° to ensure stability during
capture.
• Irregular brightness can lead to lighting differences between the capture and the
actual subject.
• The longest capture time in panorama mode is approximately 30 seconds.
15.8. Deleting photos
If a memory card is inserted, you can only delete the files on the memory
card.
If the memory card is write-protected, you cannot delete the files on the
memory card. (The message Card locked appears.)
It is not possible to restore a file that has been deleted. You should there-
fore exercise caution when deleting files.

Select Yes to delete all files selected.
Select Cancel to return to playback mode.

In playback mode, select an image with the or buttons.
Press the button to display the menu options for the delete function.
Select All and press the OK button.
Select Yes and confirm with the OK button to delete all files.
Select Cancel and confirm with the OK button to return to playback mode.
Protected files cannot be deleted. In this case, the message Image
locked appears on the display. If a memory card is inserted, you can only
delete the files on the memory card.
If the memory card is locked, you cannot delete the files on the memory
card.

fore exercise caution when deleting files.

15.9. Playing a slide show
You can play back the photos as a slide show.
In the playback menu, select slide show. The Slide Show menu opens.
The following settings are available:
Select the interval at which the images are to be displayed (1, 3, 5 or 10 sec-
onds).
Choose whether the picture sequence is to be continuously repeated ( ), or
end after the last picture.( ).
Once all settings have been made, select START and press the OK button to
start the slide show.
During playback, you can pause and resume playback by pressing .
During playback, you can stop playback by pressing .
15.10. The protect and unlock functions
15.10.1. Single fi les
In the playback menu, select Protect and then Single.
Select a picture with the or buttons.
Select Lock or Unlock and press the OK button 10 to protect or unlock the
selected file.
Select Exit and confirm with the OK button to return to playback mode.
15.10.2. Multiple fi les
In the playback menu, select Protect and then Multi.
Select an image with the or buttons and place a lock mark with the
button or remove an existing lock mark with the button.
Press the OK button to activate or deactivate the lock.
Press the button to return to the playback menu.
15.10.3. All fi les
In the playback menu, select Protect and then Lock all or Unlock all.
Select Yes and confirm with the OK button to protect or unlock all files.

15.11. Recording voice messages
In playback mode, select the required photo.
If the photo already contains a voice message, the voice message icon

In the playback menu, open the Voice Memo submenu.
The image preview and a selection menu appear on the display.
Select Start and press the OK 10 button to start the recording. The micro-
phone is beneath the lens.
The recording is ended automatically after 30 seconds. If you would like to end
the recording sooner, select Stop and press the OK button again.
You can only add voice messages to photos, not to video clips. You cannot
add voice messages to protected images. You can only delete a voice
message together with the photo, not separately.
15.12. Filter effects

In the playback menu, open the Trimming submenu. The editing window ap-
pears on the display.
Press the zoom rocker 7 towards T to enlarge the image. Press the zoom
button towards W to reduce the image size. You can see the position of the
image section in the grey rectangle on the left.
During the enlargement/reduction, you can use the , , or 10 but-
tons to change the image section.
Confirm with the OK button.
A new file is created automatically.
15.14. Resize
In playback mode, select the required photo.
In the playback menu, open the Resize submenu. The selection window ap-
pears on the display.
Select one of the following resolutions and press the OK button 10 : 640, 320
or 160.
A new file is created automatically.
The available resolutions may vary depending on the original size of the
image. Settings that are unavailable are greyed out.

16. Connection to a printer, PC or TV.
16.1. Printing images on a photo printer
You can print your images via PictBridge directly to a PictBridge-compatible pho-
to printer.
Connect the printer and camera with the USB cable supplied.
Switch on the camera and photo printer.
The camera recognises that a USB device has been connected.
Switch to USB mode by selecting "PTP" and confirm with OK.
Select the required image and required number of copies with the or di-
rection buttons. You can:
Print selection – Select the required images and number
Print all – Prints all images
16.2. Transferring data to a computer
You can transfer the images to a computer.
Supported operating systems:

16.3. Inserting the USB cable
Switch the camera off.
Connect the supplied USB cable with the com-
puter switched off to the camera's USB port and
a USB port on the PC.
When the camera has established a connection with
the computer, switch on the camera. Mass storage
or PTP appears in the camera display.
When you select Mass storage, the camera is de-
tected as a mass storage device and appears as a
drive in Windows® Explorer. Open Windows Ex-
plorer or double-click on Workplace (in Vista/Windows 7: Computer).
Double-click on the media icon for the camera.
Navigate to the "DCIM" directory and, where applicable, to the relevant subdi-
rectories to display the files (*.jpg = photos; *.wav = sound recording; *.avi =
video recording). See also the directory structure in the memory.
Press and hold the left mouse button and drag the required files into the intend-
ed directory on the computer, e.g. in the "My Documents" folder. You can also
highlight the files and use the windows commands "Copy" and "Paste".
The files are transferred to the computer and stored there. You can display, playback
and edit the files with a suitable software application.
If you select PTP, the camera is mounted as a PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol) device.
In Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8, you can access the contents of the
camera memory or memory card immediately.

16.4. Viewing recordings on a television
You can play back the images/recordings from the camera on a television set.
Switch off the camera and television set.
Connect a TV cable (not supplied) to the
camera's USB port and the video input
(yellow) and audio input (white) of the
television set.
Switch on the camera and television set.
Switch the camera to playback mode
and start the desired playback.
If the television set does not recognise the
camera signal automatically, switch on
the video input on the television set (usually with the AV button).
In the "Settings" camera menu, you may need to choose between PAL and
NTSC in the "TV Out" submenu.
16.5. DCF memory standard
The images/recordings on your camera are managed (saved, named, etc.) in ac-
cordance with the DCF standard (DCF = Design Rule for Camera File System). Im-
ages/recordings on memory cards from other DCF cameras can be played back on
your camera.
16.6. Card drive
If your PC has a card drive or is connected to a card reader and you have images/
recordings saved on the memory card, you can use this to copy the images/record-
ings on the memory card to the PC.
The card reader is also detected as a removable storage medium on the Windows
desktop (or in "Computer" if using Vista).

16.7. Memory directory structure
The camera saves the images, videos and audio clips captured in three different di-
rectories on the internal storage or memory card. The following directories are creat-
ed automatically:
DICM: All pictures, videos and audio files are saved to this folder, except for videos
recorded in auction or Internet quality mode.
Normal shots are in the "100DICAM" folder and are automatically given the name
prefix "DSCI" followed by a four-digit number.
When the highest number, "DSCI9999" has been reached, the next folder "101DIC-
AM" is created for subsequent images/recordings.
17. Troubleshooting
Use the following checklist if the camera does not function correctly. If the problem
persists, consult our Service Centre.
The camera will not switch on.
• The battery is inserted incorrectly.
• The battery is flat. Charge the battery.
The camera will not take any photos.
• The flash is still charging.
• The memory is full.
• The SD card is not correctly formatted or is defective.
• Write-protection is activated.
• Insufficient light. Change the camera angle to let in more light or use the flash.
The flash does not go off.
• The flash is not yet fully charged.
• The flash is switched off.

The image is blurred.
• The camera was moved during the shot.
• The subject was outside the camera’s focal range. Try using macro mode when
taking close-ups.
The image is not shown on the display.
• An SD card has been inserted which took images in non-DCF mode on another
camera. The camera cannot display this type of image.
The period of time between photos is longer when taking pictures in
the dark
• The shutter usually works more slowly in weak lighting conditions. Change the
camera angle or improve the lighting conditions.
The camera switches itself off.
• The camera switches itself off after a preset period of time to save the battery
charge. Switch the camera back on.
• The battery is flat and must be charged.
The image/recording has not been saved.
• The camera was switched off before the image/recording could be saved.
Images/recordings on another memory card cannot be displayed.
• The images/recordings on the memory card that were taken with the other cam-
era are displayed if the other camera also uses the DCF memory system.
The images/recordings cannot be transferred to the PC via the USB
cable.
• The camera is not switched on.
When the camera is connected to the computer for the first time, no
new hardware is found.
• The PC USB port is deactivated in the BIOS.
• Activate the port in the PC BIOS. If necessary, read the PC manual.

The zoom function is not available during video recording.
• Ensure that the macro function is switched off.
18. Maintenance and care
Clean the housing, lens and display as follows:
Clean the camera housing using a soft, dry cloth.
Do not use thinners or detergents which contain oil. This could damage the cam-
era.
When cleaning the lens or the display, start by removing the dust with a lens
brush. Then wipe the lens and display with a soft cloth. Do not apply any pres-
sure to the display and do not use hard objects to clean it.
Do not use strong cleaning agents for the housing and lens (if there is dirt that
cannot be removed, contact our Service Centre).
19. Storing the camera
Store the camera in a dry, dust-free location away from direct sunlight. Always
remove the battery from the device if it is going to be out of use for an extended
period of time.
Perform a complete discharge/charge cycle once a month. This prevents the
battery from completely discharging and becoming permanently damaged/un-
able to be charged again.
20. Disposal
PACKAGING
Your device has been packaged to protect it from damage in transit. The
packaging is made of materials that can be recycled in an environmental-
ly friendly manner.

DEVICE
All old device marked with the symbol illustrated must not be disposed of
in normal household waste.
In accordance with Directive 2012/19/EU, the devices must be properly
disposed of at the end of its service life.
This involves separating the materials in the devices for the purpose of re-
cycling and minimising the environmental impact.
Take old devices to a collection point for electrical scrap or a recycling
centre. Before doing so, remove the batteries from the device and take
them to a separate collection point for used batteries.
Contact your local waste disposal company or your local authority for
more information on this subject.
BATTERIES
Do not dispose of used batteries/rechargeable batteries with normal
household rubbish. Batteries must be disposed of correctly. For this pur-
pose, retailers that sell batteries and local collection points provide con-
tainers in which you can dispose of them. Contact your local waste dis-
posal company or your local authority for more information.
In connection with the sale of batteries or the supply of devices containing
batteries, we are obliged to draw your attention to the following:
As the end user, you are legally required to return used batteries.
The crossed-out wheelie bin symbol means that the battery must not be
disposed of with household rubbish.

22. MLAP GmbH Warranty
Dear customer,
The warranty on this product is 3 years from the date of purchase. In the
event of defects in this product, you have legal rights against the product
vendor. These legal rights are in no way limited by the warranty described
below.
22.1. Conditions of warranty
The warranty period begins on the date of purchase. Please take care to
keep the original purchase receipt. This document will serve as a proof of
purchase.
If, within three years of the date of purchase of this product, any defect in
material or manufacture should become evident, the product will – as we
choose – be repaired free of charge or replaced. This warranty is subject
to presentation, within the three-year term, of the defective product and the
proof of purchase (receipt) and a brief, written description of what consti-
tutes the defect and when it became evident.
If the defect is covered by our warranty, you will receive back the repaired
product or a new replacement. Repair or exchange of the product does not
lead to a renewed warranty period.
22.2. Warranty period and legal claims for defects
The warranty period is not prolonged by the above fulfilment. This also ap-
plies for replaced and repaired parts. Any damage or defects present at the
time of purchase must be notified immediately after unpacking. Repairs that
are carried out after the expiration of the warranty period are subject to a
charge.

22.3. Scope of warranty
The product is manufactured in accordance with strict quality guidelines and
thoroughly tested before dispatch.
The warranty applies for defects in materials or manufacture. This warran-
ty does not extend to product parts that are subject to normal wear and can
therefore be regarded as wearing parts or to damage to fragile parts, e.g.
switches, batteries or parts made of glass.
This warranty is void if the product has been damaged or not properly used
or serviced. For proper use of the product, exact compliance with all instruc-
