Freezing food yourself
If you are free zing food yourself, use only

The following foods are suitable for
freezing:
Meat and sausage products, p oultry and
ga m e, fish, v e ge tab le s, he rb s, fruit, ca ke s
a nd p a strie s, pizza, ready meals,
leftovers, egg yolk and eggĆwhite.
The following foods are not suitable
for freezing:

onions.
Blanching vegetables and fruit
To re ta in colour, flav our, arom a and
v ita min C , v e ge ta b le s and fruits should be
b la nche d p rior to fre e z ing.
Bla nching is the b rie f imm e rsion of
v e geta b le s a nd fruit in b oiling w a te r.
Lite rature on fre e z ing and b la nc hing is
a v aila b le in b ookshop s.
Packing food
1. P la c e the food in the wra p p ing.
2. P re ss out all the a ir.
3. Seal the wrapping.
4. Label the wrapping w ith the c onte nts
and date.

Freezing and storing
food

S Check that the packaging is not
damaged.
S Check the sellĆby date.
S The te m pe ra ture of the sup e rm a rket
freezer should b e -18 °C or low e r. If not,
the stora ge life of the food is red uced.
S If possible, transport deepĆfrozen food
in an insulated bag and place quickly in
the freezer compartment.
