The captured video footage will show in your Media pane (see p. 29)
automatically on closing the Capture Video dialog. The files are still
physically located in your Capture Folder.
When MoviePlus captures your video or audio footage with scene detection,
it will automatically name and incrementally number your files if you do not
specify a particular filename (by default the Prefix "Capture" is used; the
number is added as a suffix). To change the prefix name, enter a new name in
the dialog's Prefix option.
Scene detection
For any video file, scene detection can be carried out in the Media pane at
any time. Your original video file is not affected by this process because the
clips generated are "virtual scenes"; they are real clips that you can drag
straight on to your timeline, but they are merely references to the original
video file with separately stored information about where each scene begins
and ends. Even if your video file is moved or renamed, once the scenes have
been generated MoviePlus will be able to show you the detected scenes for
your media.
DV video files are normally split at
capture (see p. 31) to create a separate
video file per scene. However, non-DV video files such as those from
analogue devices cannot be split in this way so benefit from this virtual scene
detection method.
If you're using a HDD or DVD camcorder, you won't need to split or
detect scenes. Each scene is stored as an individual video file which can
be downloaded to your computer; the files show in your Media pane
automatically.
How does it work? MoviePlus detects scenes by firstly searching for any
timestamps in the file (if DV video) and, if they're not present, will search for
discontinuity between frames. If one frame is very different from its previous
frame (based on changes to their colour histograms) it is likely to be
considered to be in a separate scene and a scene break is made.
