6.3 Chimney and flue pipes
The flue pipe’s dimensions and quality must comply with the local applicable regulations prior to connecting
the stove to the flue pipe. Therefore the dimensions must be calculated properly.
We guarantee the proper functioning of the appliance if the chimney draught is at least 12 Pa. If the
chimney draught is too high, then a damper must be incorporated.
If there isn’t enough chimney draught, then the following measures can be considered:
Extending the chimney
Improving the insulation of the chimney (less cooling of the flue gases)
Increasing the supply of combustion air into the space in which the appliance is installed.
Improving the airtightness of the chimney
The nearer you place the retardant plate, the easier you may control the chimney draught. If this doesn’t
help, installing a flue gas flap in the drain pipe may also be the solution.
Many problems with inset fires are caused by badly working chimneys. Therefore some suggestions:
A round channel is preferred (minimum friction)
The diameter of the chimney may not be smaller at any point than that of the appliance
The mouth of the chimney should be unobstructed
The chimney should be as close as possible to vertical with as few curves as possible. Carrying is
possible only when the angles are up to 45 degrees.
The chimney must not draw in extra air. Watch out for flue dampers and cleaning hatches in the cellar
or on the roof!
The chimney may not have too many connections - that reduces the upwards pressure. Consult your
chimney specialist!
Flue connections to different stoves and fireplaces may not be located opposite each other at the same
height, in order to prevent the chance that combustion gases will not be drawn out. Two flue
connections must be at separated vertically by at least 30 cm.
For details on chimneys we refer you to the relevant regulations with which the chimney needs to comply.
