8 MAINTENANCE
Generally speaking the inset fire should undergo a thorough maintenance at least once a year if the appliance is
used frequently. We recommend carrying out smaller maintenance work such as removing ashes and cleaning
the glass at more regular intervals.
Removing ashes
The few ashes remaining following combustion form a protective layer between the bottom of the appliance
and the fire hearth. You furthermore extract the maximum energy from the fuel with “combustion in the
ashes”. You should thus always retain ± 1cm at the bottom. Ashes removed belong in the rubbish bag.
Cleaning the flue
Flue dust and ashes must be removed from the smoke
discharge duct every year. The smoke discharge duct can be
accessed by removing the baffle plate. This makes it easy to
remove the ashes from the discharge duct as well as the
connector. The baffle plate must remounted correctly
afterwards.
Sealings and fire bricks
Sealings and fire bricks are subject to wear and tear and need to be replaced periodically. How often depends
on how much you use your appliance. A principal rule is that the sealing needs replacement when it is
flattened, and the door no longer fits tightly against the front of the appliance. Fire bricks must be replaced
when they are worn thin, or when possible cracks are so wide that you can actually see steel through them.
Movable and mechanical parts (closing mechanisms, hinges etc) should be greased once a year with a heat-
resisting lubricant.
Cleaning painted surfaces
Dust the remaining ashes from the painted parts using a soft hand brush or cotton cloth. Never
wash the appliance with water! This can cause rust.
ATTENTION
The appliance may only be cleaned if it has fully cooled down.
