Recording
• Records in audio format with Voice Guidance Messages.
• Choose between ten recording modes. Uncompressed PCM stereo recording modes
(PCM1~PCM5) for audio CD-like quality, two stereo modes including SHQ and HQ and three
mono modes including SP, LP and SLP for extended recording times.
An adjustable recording sensitivity avoids background noises and adjusts to the recording
environment.
Ample internal memory offers a large recording capacity and allows the recording and storage
of long recordings.
• The voice-activated recording mode provides hand-free recording without having to worry
about remembering to push the record button.
• The auto divide feature automatically divides long recordings into separate les. This makes it
much easier to nd, edit and archive long recordings such as meetings or lectures.
• Record while being powered through USB without draining the battery.
• Record from external audio sources via line-in cable.
• The large signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio of the microphone picks up every detail of the human
voice to give superb sound reproduction.

5-3. Hold function
When the HOLD switch is in the Hold position, all buttons on the device are inactive. On Hold
will be shown briey on the display and the display will turn off. Unlock the device by moving the
HOLD switch to the Off position.
5-4. Set date and time
When the batteries are installed for the rst time, you will be prompted to set the data and time.
1) ‘CLOCK’ will be shown on the display. Press the ▷||button.
The year indicator ashes.
2) Press the◄◄ or ►► button to set the year.
3) Press the ▷|| button to advance to the settings for the month.
4) Repeat step2and 3 to continue to set the month, day, 12/24- hour system and the time in the
same way.
► Notes
The date and time can be changed at any time using the menu.
Refer to Menu settings on page 28 for more information.
5-5. Display information
1) Press the STOP/DEL button while the recorder is stopped to rotate the information on the dis-
play: total playback time of the current le > time > date > remaining recording time > recording
time of the current le > recording date of the current le.
2) Press ▷|| during recording to display the remaining recording time.
5-6. Use the device with a computer
As a USB mass storage device, the device offers a convenient way to save, back up and move
les. The device connects to a computer using a USB connection and does not require special
software to be installed. The device is automatically displayed as a removable drive, allowing
you to simply drag and drop les to and from the unit.
► Notes
• Do not disconnect the device while les are transferred from or to the device. Data is still being
transferred while the record/play indicator light is blinking in orange.
• Do not format the drive of the device on a computer.

6. Recording
6-1. Record with the built-in microphone
1) Press the INDEX button while the recorder is stopped to select the desired folder.
2) Press the REC/|| button to start recording. The record/play indicator light will be red. Point
the built-in microphone toward the sound source.
3) To pause recording, press the REC/|| button. The record/play indicator will blink, and
PAUSE will ash on the display.
Press the REC/|| button again to resume recording.
4) To stop recording, press the STOP/DEL button.
Notes
• Set the desired voice activation function and recording mode before starting recording (Refer
to Menu settings on page 28 for details).
• Make a test recording to make sure that the Menu settings are correct.
• Press ▷|| during recording to display the remaining recording time.
• Press ►► during recording to create a new le.
• The maximum number of les in each folder is 400, for a total capacity of 2,000 les (400 les
× 4 folders, 400 les × 1 hidden folder).
• If the recording time exceeds the available capacity or the number of les reaches 2,000,
recording stops and ‘FULL will be displayed.
Delete a few recordings or move them to a computer.
• Do not remove the batteries during recording. This may cause the recorder to malfunction.
• If recording for a prolonged period of time, replace the batteries before beginning.
• The device can record while powered through a USB cable without draining the battery.
Connect the recorder to a computer using the USB cable and press the REC/|| button for 1
second or longer to start recording.
6-2. Record with an external microphone
To record with an external microphone, connect the microphone to the microphone jack and fol-
low the same procedure as for the built-in microphone.
6-3. Using EDIT function
APPEND: Add recording to an already recorded le
OVER WRITE: Overwrite recording to an already recorded le
<APPEND>
1) Select 21 on menu mode and “off” blinks.
2) Press◄◄ or ►► button to set ON and press ►||.
3) Press►|| button while APPEnd blinks ►|| and choose a recorded le to execute Ap-
pend recording.
4) Press ►|| button to pause and PAUSE blinks.
Press recording button and a recorded le plays and press recording button again while play-
back of a recorded le. Then, it appends recording from the last part of an already recorded le.
<OVER WRITE>
1) Select 21 on menu mode and “off” blinks.
2) Press◄◄ or ►► button to set ON and press ►||.
3) Press◄◄ or ►► button to move to OVER WRITE and OVER blinks.
4) Press ►|| button to set OVERWRITE and playback a recorded le to execute OVER-
WRITE recording.
5) Press ►||button to pause before a desired part to overwrite plays.
Press recording button. If a recorded le plays the desired part to overwrite and press recording
button again. Then, it overwrites recording to an already recorded le.

► Notes
• The recording mode of the original le is in effect when editing a recording.
• Editing recording is not available in the M (music) folder and SLP Mode.
• It is required to set EDIT off after using EDIT function is completed.
6-4. Add Index marks
Index marks can be used to mark certain points
in a recording as points of reference.
Press the button during recording to add an index mark.
The index number is displayed for one second.
► Notes
• The INDEX icon indicates that the recording contains index marks.
• Up to 32 index marks can be set per le.
• During playback of recorded le, it is available to add index mark by pressing Menu button.
6-5. Covert Recording
1) Press the index button to make all A,B,C,D folders displayed on the LCD shown as below
images.
2) If you press Recording button, ‘Hid’ message will appear on the LCD and there is no display
on the LCD shown as below images.
Even though there is no display on the LCD, recording is proceeding until you press Stop but-
ton.
3) If you press Stop button and complete Hidden Recording, the LCD turns out to normal display
mode.
To playback Hidden Recording les, it is also required to press the index button to make all
A,B,C,D folders displayed shown as below images and press Playback button.
► Notes
• The recording le will be saved on H folder of VOICE directory and it is set do read-only auto-
matically which means it locks the current voice le to prevent it from being erased.
• Locking a le keeps important data from being accidentally erased when you choose to erase
all les from a folder. Please select Off to unlock the le and allows it to be erased.
• When it is in Hidden Recording mode, the current settings will be ignored such as LED blink-
ing, LCD screen, beep sound and so on due to covert recording.
• Manufacturer & seller do not take any legal responsibility for this feature.
Connect to PC and check [H] folder
When [H] folder is not found on PC, it is available to nd [H] folder by setting the option of Win-
dows explorer shown as below image.
Windows explorer’s [Tools] – [Folder Option] – [View] – File & Folder – Hidden File & Folder –
Select ‘Display Hidden File & Folder’ – Click Conrm.

6-6. Hearing Aid Function
<Using Hearing Aid Function>
You can listen to voices by connecting earphones to the earphone jack rst.
1) Press and hold INDEX button at stop mode and the device executes Hearing Aid function.
2) Press +,- button to adjust sensitivity during Hearing Aid operates.
3) To stop Hearing Aid function, press the STOP/DEL button.
<Recording on Hearing Aid mode>
1) Press REC/|| button and the device starts recording the sound from the earphone as it
sounds like.
2) To stop recording on Hearing Aid mode and save a recording le, press STOP/DEL button.
► Notes
If earphones are disconnected from the earphone jack, Hearing Aid function terminates auto-
matically.
If an external microphone or audio cable is connected to the microphone jack, Hearing Aid func-
tion terminates automatically.
6-7. Recording Mobile Phone Conversation
Universal Cell Microphone works with every telephone and cell phone to record your phone
conversation.
1. How to connect the universal cell microphone
1) Plug a microphone to the microphone jack on the recorder
2) Place single earphone on your ear
3) Then, also place your cell phone or telephone above the earphone. <Instruction #1>
When you talk to someone on cell phone or telephone, just press recording button on the
recorder.

6-9. Recording Clearly using Triple Built-in Microphones
The large signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio of the microphone picks up every detail of the human voice
to give superb sound reproduction.
Select Microphones according to recording purposes
1) In case of recording general meeting: Pull down a switch of the device to meeting direction.
Left & Right Microphones are activated to record.
2) In case of recording interview: Push up a switch of the device to interview direction. All Left,
Right & Center Microphones are activated to record.
The digital telephone cannot be connected to the Voice recorder.
To record only when you talk on the telephone, select Voice Activated Recording
and press REC button. (For details, refer to menu settings page)
If Voice Activated Recording function does not work properly, set MIC sensitivity low.
(For details, refer to menu settings page)
The input volume of recorded sound is affected by telephone and telephone line condition.
If input volume is too low, disable Voice Activated Recording function.
(For details, refer to menu settings page)

3) Rewind and forward
Press the ◄◄ or ►►button during playback to rewind to the beginning of the le being
played or forward to the next le, respectively. If the le contains index marks, playback begins
at that point.
7-2. Play features
You can set the device to play les repeatedly or randomly.
1) Repeat a sequence
• To repeat or loop a sequence in a song, press the INDEX button at the chosen starting point.
[A - B] ashes on the screen.
• Press the INDEX button again at the chosen end point.
The repeat sequence begins.
• Press the STOP/DEL button to stop playback or press the INDEX button to return to normal
playback.
2) Repeat a le or folder / shufe mode
Press and hold the INDEX button for 1 second or longer during playback to switch between
play modes.
(repeat le, repeat folder, shufe folder or normal playback)
Notes
Shufe mode is available only in the M (music) folder.
8. Management of Recording File

9. Menu Settings
<Manually tune to a radio station>
1. To ne-tune frequency, quickly press the ◄◄ or ►►button.
2. To search for the next stronger signal, press and hold ◄◄ or ►► button.
3. Press the ▷|| button to save the frequency as a preset.
4. Adjust the volume using the + and - buttons.
5. To exit radio mode, press and hold the MENU button for 1 second or longer.
► Notes
• Press the STOP/DEL button while the recorder is in radio mode to switch between stereo and
mono reception.
<Play a preset radio station>
1. Press the INDEX button while the recorder is in radio mode to switch between frequency and
preset mode.
2. In preset mode, press the ◄◄ or ►► button to change to another preset radio station.
3. Adjust the volume using the +and - buttons.
4. To exit radio mode, press and hold the MENU button for 1 second or longer.

<Delete a preset radio station>
1. Press the INDEX button while the recorder is in radio mode to switch between frequency and
preset mode.
2. In preset mode, press the ◄◄ or ►► button to select the preset radio station to be
deleted.
3. Press and hold the STOP/DEL button for 1 second or longer to delete the preset radio station.
<Record from FM radio>
1. Manually tune to a radio station or play a preset radio station.
2. Press the REC/|| button to start recording.
3. To stop recording, press the STOP/DEL button.
11. Firmware Update
The device is controlled by an internal program called rmware.
Regularly check www.recordyourlifeinc.com for new rmware updates.
1. Download the rmware update from www.recordyourlifeinc.com and save the le in the root
directory of the device.
2. Press the MENU button while the recorder is stopped to open the menu.
3. Press the ◄◄ or ►► button to select UPDATE (A).
4. Press the ▷|| button . N (No) is displayed.
5. Press the ◄◄ or ►► button to select Y (Yes).
6. Press the ▷|| button again to install the new rmware.
