ROTWILD USER MANUAL
BRAKES
Your ROTWILD bike is equipped with
efficient, hydraulic disc brakes with
which you, as opposed to conventional
rim brakes, can always brake your bike
precisely and safely, even under wet
conditions. As the rims are not subjected
to wear, a further advantage of disc
brakes is that they require relatively little
maintenance. In the case of wheel dama-
ge, (e.g. circumferential (oval) or lateral
(figure of eight) deformation) the correct
function of your brakes is not affected.
Tips for correct braking
Before each ride, run a stationary test
of your brakes by operating the brake
levers while the bike is standing. You
should not be able to squeeze the le-
vers all the way to the handlebar grips.
If the point of resistance is not reached
after three-quarters of the lever stroke
it is necessary to readjust your brakes.
Always brake with both front and rear
brakes simultaneously and note that
the front brakes can apply a consi-
derably greater braking force through
the shift of mass towards the front.
In the case of emergency stops, shift
your weight towards the rear.
In the standard configuration, the
left-hand brake lever applies the front
wheel brake and the right-hand lever
the rear wheel brake. If you wish to
change this configuration, please have
the modification carried out in a quali-
fied professional workshop.
Brake pads
New brake pads must be „run-in“ before
they achieve their maximum braking per-
formance. Experience shows that bikes
should be accelerated to 20 kph and
gradually braked to a standstill several
times. Worn brake pads can no longer
provide sufficient braking performance
and may also damage the brake discs.
Note
ROTWILD bikes have efficient disc
brakes and no back-pedal braking, so
be careful to familiarise yourself with
the braking characteristics of your bike.
You should pay particular attention to
your bike‘s behaviour in emergency bra-
king situations by testing in a traffic-
free are until you have got used to your
brakes and have complete control of
your bike.
Please note that the brake discs be-
come extremely hot during braking. Let
the discs cool after braking before you
touch them – there is a potential risk
of burns!
Always make sure that no traces of
lubricants (oils, greases etc.) come into
contact with your brake discs or pads.
Such traces immediately reduce the
efficiency of your brakes. If your brakes
are contaminated with lubricants, the
brake discs must be cleaned thorough-
ly as soon as possible, it may also be
necessary to replace the brake pads.
Wet conditions increase the danger of
sliding or skids. Take a longer braking
distance into account!
Check the brakes
Comprehensive instructions on the disk
brakes are included in the documentati-
on. Read these instructions very carefully
before taking off a wheel or performing
any maintenance work.
