2. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The POWER PEAK Infinity 3 is a member of the latest generation of intelligent chargers
with convenient battery management, designed for charging NC, NiMH, Lead-acid,
Lithium and Lithium-Polymer batteries. The charger features two independent charge out-
puts, the first intended for drive batteries and flight batteries (OUT 1), the second for
transmitter / receiver batteries (OUT 2).
A large graphic screen displays the essential parameters of the current process in nume-
ric or graphic form, providing the user with a convenient means of observing and
checking the process.
In the interests of safety the temperature of the battery can be monitored and displayed
during any process, and it is also possible to set a temperature at which the process ter-
minates automatically; the appropriate sensor is included in the set. The charger is fitted
with all possible protective features, such as short-circuit, reversed polarity and excess
temperature protection. The user is alerted to any error by means of visual and audible
alarms.
An important feature of the POWER PEAK Infinity 3 is the ground-breaking
Battery Identification System (BID). A vast array of different battery types is
now available to the modeller, and the range is constantly growing; the pro-
blem is that each battery type requir
es its “own” charge process. It can hap-
pen so quickly: you switch the system on with the wrong settings - and in
a moment your valuable battery is damaged.
The revolutionary BID system from robbe offers an ingenious solution to this problem. A
small, lightweight BID chip is assigned to each battery; the chip stores all the relevant
data required for charging and discharging that pack perfectly. The BID chip is connec-
ted to the Infinity 3, and passes the battery parameters to the charger. All you have to do
is start the specified process, and the charge or discharge process begins: no tiresome
searching through menus for the set-up parameters, maximum protection from mishand-
ling, and storing of the relevant battery data in the BID chip itself - these are the unique
advantages of the BID system.
Since the essential information is stored in the BID chip, all
the data required for safe, optimum charging and discharging
is always “on board” the battery
, and can be displayed on the
char
ger’
s screen at any time This means that an up-to-date
pictur
e of the battery’
s state can be obtained lar
gely without
the need for PC software or computer technology. At the
same time the char
ger’s large graphic screen provides a hig-
hly detailed picture of the current process.
