Throttle curve / Acceleration
FX-40
The ‘Display’ switch field is used to define which of the pro-
grammed throttle curves is to be shown in the graphic display,
or which combination of curves. The options are as follows:
Separate: = Throttle curve for the current flight mode
Fine: = Throttle curve for fine-tuning
All modes: = Thr
ottle curves for all flight modes
Pitch & Thr
ottle: = Collective pitch and throttle curves
The screen shots below show typical graphic displays of these
o
ptions.

19.3 ACCELERATION FUNCTION
The purpose of this function is to prevent abrupt changes
affecting the thr
ottle and collective pitch functions when you
change the acceleration setting. The action of the Acceleration
function is as follows: when you alter the throttle setting, a
temporary compensatory effect is superimposed. The result is
that rotor speed does not collapse if you suddenly increase
the blade pitch angle, and rotor speed does not increase if you
suddenly reduce collective pitch. This option has proved to be
extremely useful, in particular for 3-D aerobatic flying.
With the ‘Helicopter’ model type already selected, mark this
option in the Model menu. The screen now looks like this:
You will now find two strictly separated frames for the collec-
tive pitch and throttle settings. In the left frame you enter set-
tings for the collective pitch function, and in the right frame
those for the throttle function. Both settings are entered using
the identical procedure, with the exception that the terms
‘Min.’ and ‘Max.’ in the collective pitch settings frame are
replaced by ‘Closed’ and ‘Open’ in the throttle frame, referring
to the state of the carburettor. The following description there-
fore covers both frames, but we will concentrate on the collec-
tive pitch settings in the following example.
The first step is to activate this option in the standard fashion:
simply mark the Status line in the usual way, and the display
changes from ‘INA’ to ‘ON’. After this you can select ‘Glob’ or
‘Sepa’ mode.
You can now enter a separate percentage value (Rate) for the
positions ‘Min.’ and ‘Max.’, and ‘Closed’ and ‘Open’. Mark the
field and enter the setting using the arrow buttons. The selec-
ted setting is displayed as a percentage value in the field, and
in bar-form in the graphics. You can also enter a percentage
value in the ‘Damping’ field; this determines how long the
function is to remain active once the change in setting has
been carried out. In the bottom line you can define a point for
both sides which represents the position from which the func-
tion is to take effect.
The screen shot shows a typical example of programming the
Acceleration function.
If you decide to set up this facility, please ensure that the
throttle and collective pitch linkages have sufficient freedom of
movement, i.e. that they are not mechanically restricted or
obstructed at any point. If necessary, adjust the mechanical
linkages until this is the case.
