15.1 TRAINER (TEACHER / PUPIL FUNCTION)
Trainer (teacher-pupil, buddy-box) operations make it possi-
ble for newcomers to learn the art of model flying with the
h
elp of an experienced pilot (Teacher).
The FX-40 transmitter is equipped as standar
d with a socket
to which a T
rainer cable can be connected. The socket is loca-
ted on the left-hand side of the transmitter under a hinged flap.
Page 13 of these instructions lists the other transmitters from
the robbe / Futaba range with which the FX-40 transmitter can
be combined to act both as Teacher and as Pupil transmitter.
The lists also contain information on the Trainer leads and
modules which have to be used for particular combinations,
together with safety notes relating to Trainer mode operations.
NEW!!
THE CONFIGURA
TION OF THE TRAINER FUNCTION IS
NOW STORED FOR EACH MODEL!
TRAINER MODE: AS TEACHER TRANSMITTER
Press the “INH” button field; the display changes to “OFF”.
In the Switch line assign the T
rainer switch, i.e. the switch
to be used for transferring control in Trainer mode.
Select the Teacher transmitter.
Select the channel count:
The channel count must be chosen to match the facilities
of the Pupil transmitter you intend to use.
12 Ch if the Pupil transmitter is a T-14MZ / FX-40.
8 Ch for any other Futaba or robbe / Futaba transmitter
type.
IMPORTANT:
If the FX-40 transmitter is used as the Teacher unit, then it is
absolutely essential to set the modulation on the Pupil trans-
mitter to PPM.
It is very important to note that the channel sequence of the
FX-40 is dif
ferent to that used in previous Futaba and robbe /
Futaba transmitters. If a transmitter other than an FX-40 is
used as the Pupil transmitter, then the channel sequence must
be changed to the PCM 1024 system; this is carried out in the
Base / Function menu.
SELECTING THE FUNCTIONS
Functions 1 … 12 (or 1 … 8) can be selected individually for
transfer to the Pupil.
V
arious modes ar
e available for transfer of control.
OFF MODE
Function switched off; channel not transferred to the Pupil
transmitter.
FUNC MODE
In FUNC mode the corresponding channel is transferr
ed to the
Pupil transmitter.
In this case the Pupil transmitter uses the mixer settings of
the Teacher transmitter, and therefore does not require its
own mixer functions to control the model.
The Teacher and Pupil have control of the model according to
the position of the Trainer switch.
NORM MODE
In this mode the corresponding channel is also transferred to
the Pupil transmitter
.
In this case the Pupil transmitter uses its own mixer settings
,
and ther
efor
e requires appropriate mixer functions to control
the model.
When control is passed to the Teacher transmitter, its own
mixer functions ar
e used to control the model.
As in FUNC mode, the Teacher and Pupil have control of the
model according to the position of the Trainer switch.
MIX MODE
If this mode is selected, and the Trainer switch is set to “ON”,
then the T
eacher and Pupil both have access to the model’s
control system, i.e. they control the model in parallel.
In this case the Pupil transmitter uses the mixer settings of
the T
eacher transmitter, and therefore does not require its
own mixer functions to control the model.
The various modes can be selected separately for each func-
tion; a combination of modes is possible for the various chan-
nels.
The T
rainer Set-up menu has a second page wher
e you can
assign a switch to each control function individually, enabling
the Teacher to transfer functions to the Pupil, or switch them
off, while the model is flying.
For the “FUNC” and “MIX” modes it is also possible to set a
Rate. This determines the maximum extent of control which
the Pupil has over the model.
EXAMPLE:
“Mix” mode, rate
50%. T
eacher and
Pupil both have
parallel contr
ol over
the model, but the
Teacher has 100%
control travel, the
Pupil only 50%.
TRAINER MODE: AS PUPIL TRANSMITTER
Press the “Teacher / Pupil” button field; the display chan-
ges to “Pupil”.
Press the “INH” button field; the display changes to “ON”.
The channel count must be chosen to match the Pupil
transmitter you intend to use.
12 Ch if the Teacher transmitter is a T-14MZ / FX-40.
8 Ch for any other Futaba or robbe / Futaba transmitter type.
For all other transmitter types: select PPM.
