Eiffelturm
1930 vom Chrysler Building (New York) abgelöst wurde.
So
Eiffel Tower
The fi rst thing that comes to mind when thinking of Paris is the Eiffel
Tower. This city’s famous landmark was built between 1887 and 1889
for the World’s Fair in Paris on the 100th anniversary of the French
Revolution. Attracting more than 6 million visitors each year, it belongs
to the most popular structures in the world. The Eiffel Tower measu-
res 324 m (1063 ft) high and was named after its designer, Gustave
Eiffel. One of the most innovative achievements with the tower was
the use of hydraulic elevators. For 41 years after its completion, it was
the highest building in the world, before being surpassed by the New
York City Chrysler Building in 1930. Originally, the Eiffel Tower was to be
torn down after 20 years; however, it was quickly realized how useful
it was for communication: its height permitted the establishment of
the fi rst transatlantic radio circuit. The plan to tear it down was quickly
abandoned. Today, tourists can enter three different platforms to enjoy
astonishing views over Paris.

Tour Eiffel
New York.
New York.

uitzicht over Parijs.
