ABOUT THE CHARGER
See the last three pages for the technical specifications of the GBC 100.
The GBC 100 can be left connected to the mains power supply keeping the battery
in a good condition. The charger measures and checks the voltage level
continuously. This level will be adjusted automatically whenever necessary. This
built-in system prevents the battery becoming overcharged or entering a gaseous
state.
If you want to remove the charger from the battery, it’s important that the charging
process is always completely finished. As such, the connection between the charger
and the battery should only be broken when the green LED indicates ‘100%’. If the
charging process is interrupted before it is completed, the battery loses its charge
and its acid balance.
The GBC 100 is protected to ensure you that the charging process progresses
safely.
Temperature
The GBC 100 is protected against excess temperatures. At an internal temperature
of more then 70ºC the fan will turn on automatically. When the internal temperature
is normal again, the fan also stops automatically. If the cooling of the fan isn’t
enough the charger will shut down totally. When the charger has cooled down it will
continue the charging process.
How the temperature protective devices operate will depend strongly on the ambient
temperature.
Reverse polarisation
Reverse polarisation means that the plus and minus connection wires are
inadvertently reversed on the battery or on the charger. When a reverse polarisation
occurs the LED ‘error’ will light red. Disconnect, and connect the battery and the
charger properly. Reverse polarisation will not cause damage to the battery or the
charger but you should try to avoid it.
Short circuit (output)
The charger is protected from short circuit when no battery is connected, even in the
presence of 230VAC.
Batteries on the other hand cannot withstand short circuit!
You should for this reason never short circuit the battery. Never short circuit when
the charger is connected to the battery, irrespective of whether 230VAC is present.
When a battery is short circuited there is a danger that it will explode!!! The charger
too will then incur serious damage.
