DESCALING
Regular descaling will considerably lengthen the lifespan of the PRINCESS COFFEE CORNER.
Generally speaking, the coffeemaker should be descaled once per month, twice per month if you have
very hard water. Hard water is water with a level above 20° DH; DH means German Hardness, a measure
for the hardness of the water. Ask your water company about the hardness of your tap water.
Also descale the coffeemaker immediately when:
- it makes sputtering sounds
- it takes longer than normal to make coffee
- water remains in the reservoir after making coffee
- it switches off by itself
- it produces more than a normal amount of steam
Almost all standard descaling products can be used. Most packages indicate the proper application.
Hydrochloric acid and sulphuric acid may not be used. Never use these products for descaling.
Proceed as follows:
- first allow the coffeemaker to cool off
- fill the reservoir with cold water
- add the amount of descaler as indicated on the package
- place a paper filter in the filter holder; do not forget to place the carafe underneath
- switch on the coffeemaker
- after about 2 cups have flowed through, switch off the coffeemaker and let it rest for one-half hour;
this will allow the descaler to do its work.
- now switch on the coffeemaker again; once the water with descaler has flowed through,
run three more cycles with clean water to rinse out all remaining descaler.
IMPORTANT: allow the coffeemaker to cool off for about three minutes between each ‘rinse’.
The guarantee does not apply to coffeemakers with scale build-up.
PRINCESS TIPS
- Place the appliance on a sturdy and stable surface.
- Never immerse the appliance in water or any other liquid.
- The outside of the pot becomes very hot. Always use the handle to pick up the pot.
- Ensure that the appliance is not so near the edge of a table, work surface, etc. that someone could
knock it over; also make certain that the cord is not positioned so that someone could trip over it or
catch it by accident. Remember that the pot is filled with hot coffee!
- Do not use the appliance if it is damaged or if the cord is damaged. Send it to our service department.
For these types of appliances, a damaged cord can only be replaced with special tools by our
service department.
- Never place the appliance on or in the direct vicinity of a hot cooking ring or similar object.
- Always remove the plug from the socket before cleaning, and in the event of outages.
- The hotplate becomes very hot: make certain that children cannot touch it and be careful yourself,
as well!
- IMPORTANT: When filling the appliance, any extra water will run directly
into the pot via the filter. This may cause it to overflow.
