WARNING: Kickback can lead to dangerous loss of control of the chain saw
and result in serious or fatal injury to the saw operator or to anyone
standing close by. Always be alert. Rotational kickback and pinch-kickback
are major chain saw operational dangers and the leading cause of most
accidents.
Beware of:
▪ Rotational kickback (Fig. 2a)
A = kickback path
B = kickback reaction zone
▪ The push (pinch kickback) and pull reactions a = pull (Fig. 2b)
B = solid objects
C = push
When the chain saw fails to dig in during a cut, the guide bar can begin hopping or
dangerously skidding along the surface of the log or branch, possibly resulting in the loss of
control of the chain saw. To prevent or reduce skating, hold the chain saw with two hands and
make sure the saw chain establishes a groove for cutting.
7 SAFETY WARNINGS GASOLINE
WARNING: Use extra care in handling fuels. They are flammable and the
vapours are explosive.
The following points must be observed:
▪ Use only an approved container.
▪ Never remove the fuel cap or add fuel with the power source running. Allow engine
exhaust components to cool before refuelling.
▪ Do not smoke.
▪ Never refuel the machine indoors.
▪ Never store the machine or fuel containers inside, where is an open flame, such as a
water heater.
▪ If fuel is spilled, do not attempt to start the power source, but move the machine away
from the area of spillage before starting.
▪ Always replace and securely tighten the fuel cap after refuelling.
▪ If the tank is drained, this should be done outdoors.
8 ASSEMBLY
8.1 Installing Guide Bar and Saw Chain
Open the box and install the guide bar (2) and the saw chain (1) on the power unit as follows:
Warning: The saw chain has very sharp edges. Use thick protective gloves
for safety.
▪ Pull the guard (4) towards the front handle (5) to check that the chain brake is not
engaged (Fig. 3).
▪ Loosen the nuts (14) and remove the chain cover (22). (Fig. 4)
▪ Fix the hanger on the rear of power unit by screw. (Fig. 5)
▪ Mount the guide bar (2) then fit the saw chain (1) around the bar (2) and sprocket (21).
