formation of bubbles may occur. Bleachers are alkaline and may damage your
clothes. Use as less detergent as necessary. Powdery detergents may remain in your
clothes, so rinse them thoroughly. If you use too much detergent or if the water-
temperature is too low, the detergent will not dissolve completely; so residuals of
the detergent may remain in the clothes, the hoses and the appliance itself.
Customise the washing procedures relevant to amount and grade of contamination
of the laundry, your local water hardness and the information given on the
packaging of your detergent. For information about the water hardness, ask your
local water supplier. Store your detergents in a safe and dry place out of the reach
of children.
Preparation of the laundry
1. Empty all pockets of each piece of your laundry.
2. Classify the laundry relevant to the labels: cotton, blended fabric, synthetic, silk,
wool, man-made fibres.
3. Wash clothes of different size together; so you maximise the efficiency of the
appliance.
4. Wash delicate clothes separately. Select a gentle programme for silk and wool.
5. Sort your laundry before washing.
6. Remove hooks and other fastening materials from curtains.
7. Wash clothes with buttons or embroideries inside out.
8. Close zippers, buttons and hooks. Tie loose ribbons.
9. Wash clothes, which give off fluffs easily, separately and inside out.
10. Put bras into pillow cases so they do not damage the drum (fig 1).
11. Wash quite delicate and small clothes in wash bags (available at specialist
retailers; fig. 1).
12. When you want to wash a single, big piece of laundry (e.g. a jacket or jeans), an
imbalance in the drum may be generated. Always add 1 or 2 other pieces of
laundry to ensure consistent operation (fig. 2).
13. Remove dust, mud and animal hair from the laundry.
14. Wash baby-wear and clothes a baby may come in contact with separately to
reduce the risk of infection. Increase the rinsing time to wash out the detergent
completely.
