Finalizing a Disc
Before you can play a CD-R on an ordinary CD player, the disc must
go through a process called finalization. Once finalized, a CD-R
disc is no longer recordable, nor will you be able to set or clear skip
IDs. Finalization is not reversible for CD-Rs so be absolutely sure
that everything on the disc is the way you want it before you start.
CD-RW discs can also be finalized, although you can still erase the
disc afterward and reuse it, so it's not anything like as final as it is
with a CD-R disc. A finalized CD-RW disc can only be played on a
CD player that is compatible with CD-RW discs (at present, there
are very few of these).
Caution!
Finalization takes a few minutes. During this time never switch off
the power to the unit—the disc may become unusable as a result.
If there's a power failure or you do accidently disconnect the power
during finalization, the recorder will try and complete finalization
once power is restored. The display will show RESUME until it’s
finished trying to recover the disc. Unfortunately, it may not be
possible to complete the process successfully, and the disc may be
damaged as a result.
1 Load the CD–R or CD–RW you want
to finalize.
• Check that the disc is free from dust, dirt and scratches—if
necessary, clean the disc, following the guidelines on pages
12–13.
2 Press FINALIZE.
The recorder goes into record-pause mode, then the display
changes to:

Finalisation d’un disque
Avant de pouvoir lire un CD-R sur un lecteur CD ordinaire, le
disque doit être soumis à une procédure dite finalisation. Une fois
finalisé, un disque CD-R n’est plus enregistrable, et la pose et
l’effacement de codes de saut seront impossibles. La finalisation
n’est pas réversible pour les CD-R; aussi vérifiez bien que tout est
comme vous le souhaitez sur le disque avant de commencer cette
procédure.
Les CD-RW peuvent aussi être finalisés, mais vous pouvez toujours
effacer le disque par la suite et le réutiliser, donc la finalisation n’a
pas cet aspect final qu’elle a pour le CD-R; Un CD-RW finalisé peut
seulement être lu sur un lecteur CD acceptant des disques CD-RW
(il y en a encore très peu actuellement).
Attention!
La finalisation exige quelques minutes. Pendant ce temps, ne
mettez pas l’appareil hors tension—le disque pourrait devenir
inutilisable. En cas de panne de courant ou de débranchement
accidentel pendant la finalisation, l’enregistreur essayera de
terminer la finalisation quand le courant sera rétabli. L’affichage
indiquera RESUME jusqu’à la fin de l’essai de reprise du disque.
Malheureusement, cela peut parfois être impossible, et le disque
peut être endommagé dans ce processus.
1 Chargez le CD-R ou CD-RW à
finaliser.
• Vérifiez que le disque est exempt de poussière, de saleté et de
rayures—si nécessaire, nettoyez-le, en suivant les grandes
lignes de les page 12–13.
2 Pressez FINALIZE.
L'enregistreur passe en mode pause d'enregistrement, puis
l'affichage passe à:
