Oplossen: Een effect waarbij de video langzaam van de ene scène in de
volgende overgaat.
Overdrachtssnelheid van gegevens: De meeteenheid voor de snelheid
waarmee gegevens tussen het opslagapparaat (zoals CD-ROM of
harde schijf) en het afspeelapparaat (zoals monitor of MCI-apparaat)
worden uitgewisseld. Afhankelijk van de gebruikte apparatuur bieden
sommige transfer rates een betere performance dan andere.
Overgang: Een overbruggingseffect tussen aangrenzende video- of
audioclips, variërend van een eenvoudige ‘cut’ tot een flitsend
geanimeerd effect. Gangbare overgangen zoals cuts, fades,
oplossingen, vegen, verschuivingen en audio cross-fades maken deel
uit van de film- en videotaal. Ze kunnen kort en bondig, en vaak heel
subtiel, het verstrijken van de tijd en veranderingen van gezichtspunt
overbrengen.
PAL: Afkorting van Phase Alternation Line. In Duitsland ontwikkelde
kleurentelevisienorm. Deze werkt met 625 lijnen en 50 halve beelden
per seconde. Zie NTSC, SECAM.
Parallelle interface: Via de parallelle interface worden gegevens via een
8-bits datakabel overgedragen. Dit betekent dat bits (één byte)
tegelijkertijd kunnen worden overgedragen. Deze manier van
overdracht is duidelijk sneller dan via de seriële interface, maar deze
manier van overdracht is wel storinggevoelig over grote afstanden.
Parallelle interfaces worden aangeduid met LPT en een cijfer (bijv.

Pixel: Pixels zijn de kleinste elementen waaruit een beeld op de monitor
wordt opgebouwd. Afkorting voor ‘picture element’ (beeldpunt).
