en monitoren zijn inherent progressief, terwijl televisie-uitzendingen
zijn gebaseerd op interlaced technieken en standaarden. Bij HD
terminologie wordt progressief aangeduid met de 'p' en interlaced
met de letter 'i'.
HDV: Een formaat voor opname en weergave van High Definition-
video op een DV-cassetteband. Vastgelegd als HDV-formaat. In
plaats van de DV-codec maakt HDV gebruik van MPEG-2. Er zijn
twee varianten van HDV: HDV1 en HDV2. HDV1 is een resolutie
van 1280x720 met progressieve frames (720p). De MPEG-
transportstream bedraagt 19,7 Mbps/s. HDV2 is een resolutie van
1440x1080 met interlaced frames (1080i). De MPEG-
transportstream bedraagt 25 Mbps/s.
Hi8: Verbeterde versie van Video8 met S-Video opgenomen
op banden met metalen deeltjes of metaalbedampte banden. Op basis
van de grotere luminantieresolutie en bandbreedte hebben deze
opnamen in verhouding tot Video8 een grotere beeldscherpte.
HiColor: Bij beelden betekent dit meestal een 16-bits beeldtype (5-
6-5) dat maximaal 65.536 kleuren kan bevatten. TGA-
bestandsformaten ondersteunen dit soort beelden. Bij andere
bestandsformaten is vaak eerst een conversie van HiColor naar
TrueColor nodig. Bij beeldschermen verwijst HiColor meestal
naar 15-bits beeldschermadapters (5-5-5), waarmee maximaal
32.768 kleuren kunnen worden weergegeven. Bit
Huffman-codering: Een techniek die owrdt gebruikt bij JPEG
en andere methoden voor gegevenscompressie: aan frequent
optredende waarden wordt een korte code toegewezen en aan aan
zeldzame waarden een lange code.
IDE: Afkorting van Integrated Device Electronics, een interface
voor harde schijven die alle voor het station benodigde
stuurelementen op het station zelf ter beschikking stelt. Door deze
technologie wordt de conventionele adapter die het station met de
uitbreidingsbus verbindt, overbodig.
