11
Replacing the battery
Use size 13 batteries for all Naída SP (SuperPower) and
size 675 batteries for all Naída UP (UltraPower) models.
Using the nail grip, open the battery compartment
completely and remove the old battery , , .
Preparation
Remove the protective
foil from the new battery.
Wait two minutes before
inserting it.
12
Insert the new battery with the + sign (flat side of
the battery) in line with the + marked on the battery
cover , . Push the battery door upwards to close it
.
Tamperproof battery compartment
For the Junior models (product names extended with Jr)
the battery is locked inside the battery compartment
for safety reasons. The latch can easily be opened with
a fingernail. Place the fingernail in the groove and pull
the latch away from the hearing instrument and
then push it upwards .
Preparation
click”
13
The battery can only be inserted when the latch is
in upwards position . Move the latch over the
inserted battery so that it lies against it. Lock the
battery by pushing towards the hearing instrument
with your finger . Before you close the battery
compartment, check that the latch is locked
in position and the battery cannot be removed.
The tamperproof battery compartment is also
available for the design-integrated FM receiver as
well as the universal receiver audio shoe.
14
Handle the battery compartment with care and
do not use excessive force.
If there is any resistance when shutting the
compartment, ensure that the battery is inserted
correctly.
If the battery is installed backwards, the
instrument will not work. Please open the battery
compartment and insert the battery correctly.
For the Junior models, the battery latch must be
placed back over the battery and locked,
before closing the battery compartment.
The battery compartment must be completely
closed to ensure that the hearing instrument is
water resistant.
When your hearing system is not in use, leave
the battery compartment open to allow any
moisture to evaporate.
We recommend to only use batteries which your
hearing care professional approves and sells.
Preparation
15
Low battery warning
An acoustic signal gives you an early warning that the
battery is approaching exhaustion. You have usually
at least 30 minutes to replace the battery. With very
high quality batteries, this reserve may be higher. The
hearing system will repeat the low battery warning
approximately every 30 minutes.
For optimal use of the batteries, we recommend you to
test and estimate the reserve time individually when
you start using your Naída hearing sytems.
Note:
Please note that the battery consumption increases
with regular use of the myPilot command center, iView
status viewer, the iCom communication interface or
an FM receiver attached.
16
Identifying left and right hearing systems
It is important to use the correct hearing system for
each ear.
Your hearing care professional can mark the hearing
systems for you. The color code on the lower part
of the battery compartment will identify the left and
right hearing systems.
The color code is as follows:
blue = left red = right
Preparation
17
If you have a design-integrated FM solution mounted
on your hearing systems, the color code is situated
on the FM system. To identify the left and right hearing
systems, refer to the drawing below.
blue = left red = right
18
Inserting Nda
hearing systems
with earmold into
your ear
Using the hand on the same side you wear your
hearing system, grasp the earmold between the thumb
and index finger.
Raise your hand to your ear, making sure the canal
portion of the earmold faces your ear. Tilt your hand
slightly forward.
Preparation
19
Place the canal portion of the earmold inside your ear
canal. If it is difficult to get it into place, stretch your
ear by pulling it gently backwards and upwards with
your other hand. When the canal portion is in place,
twist the earmold backwards so that it fits into the
concha and the helix portion is under the fold.
Now position the hearing
system behind the ear.
Be careful not to twist the
tubing.
20
Check the placement of the earmold by tracing the
contour of the ear with your finger.
To remove your hearing system, grasp the earmold,
not the tubing, and pull it out of your ear gently but
firmly.
Preparation
21
Secure n Stay - an optional retention
Secure ‘n Stay is an optional retention that can be easily
mounted on the hearing instrument , .
ቢባ
22
Preparation
Secure n Stay supports the retention of the hearing
instrument behind the ear , and gives extra
comfort during sport activities, when playing, etc. Ask
your hearing care professional for more information.
It can also be used with an FM system attached to your
hearing instrument.
23
Note:
Before using Secure 'n Stay, carefully read the in-
structions enclosed in the package. Secure 'n Stay is
designed to be used in all situations where the Naída
hearing system is recommended to be worn.
Use only the appropriate Secure 'n Stay size for your
Naída hearing system:
Secure 'n Stay SP: Naída SP (SuperPower) models
Secure 'n Stay UP: Naída UP (UltraPower) models
24
Switchin g ON/OFF
Switching OFF
Switching ON
Operation
Using the nail grip, slightly open the battery cover
until it snaps to its OFF position. Keep in mind that
Naída hearing systems are water resistant (sealed)
and need a slightly stronger force to the OFF position.
Close the battery compartment. Your Naída hearing
systems are always working in the initial hearing
program, and at the preset volume when turned ON.
25
FM system
Switching ON/OFF of a design-integrated FM
or a universal FM receiver with an audio shoe
(see page 41 or 46 resp.) can easily be done as
described above.
Keep in mind that the design-integrated FM systems
are water resistant (sealed) and need a second press
on the receiver/battery compartment to close properly
(2x “click” for Naída UltraPower only).
Delayed activation
Please be aware of that your hearing instrument may
take several seconds to boot up.
Your hearing care professional may have delayed
the activation of your Naída hearing system after
switching ON (9 or 15 seconds), in order to avoid
any disturbance while placing it on your ear.
The activation is confirmed by an acoustic signal.
26
Controlling the volume
The volume of your Nda hearing system can be
adjusted above or below the preset volume.
Volume up
Volume down
Operation
27
Note:
½
A beep confirms each action on the volume
control. A double beep indicates that you have
reached the limit of your volume control range.
½
The volume control switch can be replaced
with a locked version, specially designed for small
children. Your hearing care professional can
easily make this adaptation. The volume control can
then only be operated via myPilot (see page 34),
or by hand using a pin-shaped item, like a pen.
Press the pen gently on the upper or lower part of
the volume control as on page 26.
QuickSync controlling two hearing systems
An automatic synchronization for volume adjustments
and program selection, QuickSync, is integrated in
Nda V and IX models. Users wearing two hearing
instruments have to activate the functionality on one
instrument and the other instrument will be adjusted
automatically. Your hearing care professional may have
deactivated this wireless syncronization.
28
Selecting a hearing program
Automatic program selection
The program selection in Naída* is fully automatic.
Nda recognizes different hearing environments and
automatically selects the most appropriate hearing
program.
Additional program selection
Upon request, your hearing care professional can pro-
gram for you additional individual hearing programs
dedicated to specific hearing situation or FM (wireless
communication) use. Additional programs are available
via myPilot (see page 34) and/or with the program
switch.
*except Naída I (available in certain countries only)
Operation
29
QuickSync - controlling two hearing instruments
QuickSync, an automatic synchronization for volume
adjustments and program selection is integrated in
Naída V and IX models. Users wearing two hearing
instruments have to activate the functionality on one
instrument and the other instrument will be adjusted
automatically. Your hearing care professional may have
deactivated this wireless syncronization.
Program switch (TacTronic)
The program switch allows manual toggling between
the Automatic Mode (except Naída I), Mute Mode
and individual hearing programs. A short melody
confirms the selection of the “Automatic Mode.
30
Operation
ZoomControl
This special hearing program, which is available in
Nda IX only, allows you to choose from four
directions in which to focus your hearing systems
(front, back, left or right). This special program
can be accessed via the myPilot command center
and/or the program switch.
Telecoil (optional)
Your hearing care professional may have activated
a Telecoil in your hearing systems. The programs with
Telecoil can be used with hearing system compatible
phones or via inductive loop systems (present in some
school settings, theaters, churches etc.).
Ask your hearing care professional to print out the
complete description of your individual hearing
programs and how to access them with your myPilot
command center, the program switch or a remote
control.
31
EasyPhone
The EasyPhone function enables your Nda* hearing
system to automatically select your telephone program
when the telephone handset is held close to your ear.
An acoustic signal confirms the switching. It
automatically returns to the previous hearing program
when the telephone handset is removed from your ear.
Some telephones produce a magnetic field strong enough
to activate your EasyPhone function. Most types of
telephones require an additional magnet fixed on the
receiver to activate this function.
Fixing the EasyPhone magnet
Clean the telephone handset
thoroughly.
Hold the telephone handset nearly
vertically, similarly to making
a telephone call. Hold the magnet
near to the listening end of your
telephone handset and release it.
The magnet will automatically flip
to the correct side.
*except Naída I (available in certain countries only)
32
If you hold the telephone
receiver in your right hand
when making telephone
calls, position the magnet in
the upper right half of the
receiver.
If you hold the telephone
receiver in your left hand
when making telephone
calls, position the magnet
in the upper left half of
the receiver.
Use the double-sided adhesive
tape to stick the magnet to
the location described above.
Do not cover the sound
openings of your handset.
Instead of holding the phone
against your ear canal hold the
earpiece of the phone against
the microphone, which is at the
front of your hearing system.
Operation
33
Use of EasyPhone
Use the telephone in a normal manner. An acoustic
signal indicates the activation of the EasyPhone
program. At the beginning, you may need to move the
handset slightly to find the optimum position for a
reliable switching and comfortable hearing.
If necessary, move the magnet to another position on
the handset to increase your comfort of use.
Keep magnets out of reach of children and pets.
If a magnet is swallowed, please seek the advice
of a medical practitioner.
The magnet used to strengthen the magnetic
field of your phone may affect some medical
devices or electronic systems.
Always keep the magnet (or the telephone
equipped with the magnet) at least 30 cm (12”)
away from pacemakers, credit cards, floppy disks
or other magnetically sensitive devices.
Too high distortion during dialing or phoning
may mean that the phone receiver is stressed by
the magnet. To avoid any damage, please move
the magnet to another place on the telephone
receiver.

FM communication (optional)
Your Naída hearing system is equipped with Direct
Audio Input (DAI). It allows you to fully benefit from
the high-end FM systems from Phonak.
FM systems greatly improve communication when
noise, distance or reverberation is a problem. A wireless
FM communication system consists of a transmitter
and a receiver. The transmitter transmits the signal to
the receiver.
For more information about the use of FM receivers
or transmitters, please refer to the appropriate user
guide or ask your hearing care professional.
