28 Chapter 6. SMS
6. SMS
(Short Message Service)
(Depending on country and telephone network)
You can send and receive SMS (Short Message Service)
messages with your Laserfax machine. Your fax machine
is pre-set to use this function; however, use of these serv-
ices is dependent on the particular country and telephone
network. Ask your telephone system operator whether
SMS operation is possible and whether you must be reg-
istered to make use of it. In the event that problems arise,
or changes to your device are required, please contact
your telephone provider.

Return to the previous menu step by press-
ing C. Move the cursor on the display with
¾
.
Delete individual numbers and letters with C
or
\
.
To interrupt an operation in progress and re-
turn to the root menu without saving, press STOP.
Sending SMS Messages
1 Press
W
, select send SMS with
¾
and con-
fi rm with OK.
2 Enter the text that you would like to send. You can
enter a maximum of 160 characters or 640 characters
(depending on country and telephone network).

To enter capital letters, press
+
and the
desired key simultaneously. You may add
a space by pressing the
½
key.  e symbols are
displayed directly above the letter keys. To enter
symbols, press the blue key and the corresponding
letter key simultaneously. Press
J
to begin a new
paragraph. Pressing COPY to obtain a print-out
of your SMS message before sending it.
3 Press
W
when you have fi nished entering your
message.
4 You can enter a number with the number pad or
you can select an entry from the telephone book, the
redial list or the caller list:
Manual entry: Enter the recipient’s telephone
number, then press
W
.  e fax machine will now
send the SMS message.
Telephone book: Press
}
, then select the
desired entry from your telephone book by pressing
¾
. Press
W
.  e fax machine will now send the
SMS message.
Redial list: Press

, then select the desired
number from the redial list by pressing

. Press

e fax machine will now send the SMS message.
Caller list: To select a number from the caller list,
press the blue key and

machine will now send the SMS message.
5 After sending the SMS message, your fax machine
will print out a transmission report in accordance
with its settings (see the chapter entitled Fax /
Transmission Report).

You can also access the function send SMS
by pressing MENU/OK,

Sending to Multiple Recipients
1 Press
W
, select send SMS with

and con-
fi rm with OK.
2 Enter the text as described above, then press
W
.
3 Enter the number of the fi rst recipient using the
number pad, or select an entry from the telephone
book or the redial list.
4 Press the blue key and
¼
, and enter another
number. You can add up to ten recipients.
5 Press
W
to send the SMS message.
Receiving SMS Messages
When you have received an SMS, the green light
»
will shine on your fax machine, and the
W
symbol will
appear on the display.  e fax machine will automatically
print out incoming SMS messages. If you have turned
the automatic printing function off , the SMS messages
will be stored.
Reading SMS Messages
1 Press
W
, select read SMS with
¾
and con-
fi rm with OK.
2 e number of the last message as well as the date
and time of its reception will be displayed. Unread
messages are marked with a star “*”. Select the de-
sired SMS message by pressing
¾
and confi rm
your selection with OK.
3 Move the cursor within the SMS message with
¾
.
Pressing C will return you to the previous menu step;
pressing STOP will return you to the root menu.

You can also access the function read SMS
by pressing MENU/OK,
