Read these instructions for use carefully before using the appliance and save them for future
reference.
◗ Check if the voltage indicated on the appliance corresponds to the local mains voltage before
you connect the appliance.
◗ Do not use the coffee maker if the mains plug, the mains cord or the appliance itself is
damaged.
◗ If the mains cord is damaged, it must be replaced by Philips, a service centre authorised by
Philips or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.
◗ Do not place the coffee maker on a hot surface and prevent the mains cord from coming
into contact with hot surfaces.
◗ Never immerse the coffee maker in water or in any other liquid.
◗ Unplug the appliance:
- if problems occur during brewing;
- before cleaning the coffee maker.
◗ Keep the coffee maker out of the reach of children and do not let them play with the
appliance. Prevent children from pulling at the mains cord. Do not let the mains cord hang
over the edge of the worktop.
Before first use
1 Let the appliance run once without filling the filter with ground coffee (see chapter 'Using the
appliance').
2 Clean the detachable parts (see chapter 'Cleaning').
◗ You can store excess cord by pushing it into the opening at the back of the coffee maker
(fig. 1).
Using the appliance
Brewing coffee
1 Fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water (fig. 2).
◗ The graduations on the left are for large cups (120 ml) (fig. 3).
◗ The graduations on the right are for small cups (80 ml).
2 Open the filter holder (fig. 4).
3 Take a paper filter (type 1x4 or no. 4) and fold the sealed edges to prevent tearing and
folding (fig. 5).
4 Put the filter in the filter holder (fig. 6).

Some versions come with a permanent filter. In this case you do not need to use paper filters.
5 Put ground coffee (filter-fine grind) in the filter (fig. 7).
- For large cups: use one heaped measuring spoon of ground coffee for each cup.
- For small cups: use one level measuring spoon of ground coffee for each cup.
6 Close the filter holder (fig. 8).
7 Place the jug on the hotplate (fig. 9).
8 Switch the appliance on by pressing the on/off button (fig. 10).
9 When all the water has passed through the filter, you can take the jug out off the appliance
(fig. 11).
