Before use:
To operate the appliance, plug the toaster into the mains socket and slide the switch downwards.
Please note: The switch will only stay in the down position if the appliance is connected to the mains!
Important
• For type HD 2553: Do not place the dust cover on top of the toaster when the
appliance is switched on or when it is still hot, as this could lead to damage.
• Attention: The toaster gets hot during use.
Avoid touching the metal parts.
• If a slice of bread becomes trapped inside the toaster:
- remove the plug from the mains socket;
- then remove the trapped slice carefully from the toaster.
Take care not to damage the heating elements whilst removing the bread.
Never use a metal object for this purpose.
• Bread may burn. Therefore, toasters must not be used near or below curtains or
other combustible material. Never leave the appliance unattended.
• Do not place any objects or heat-up buns directly on top of the toaster as this
could lead to damage.
• When cleaning the toaster:
- First remove the plug from the mains socket.
- Never immerse the toaster in water. Wipe it clean with a damp cloth.
• If the mains cord of this appliance is damaged, it must be replaced by Philips or
their service representative, as special tools and/or parts are required.
• To prevent any unpleasant odors from forming, the appliance should be operated
several times without toast on the highest toasting setting in a ventilated room.
Allow the toaster to cool down in between the toasting cycles. We advise not to
operate the appliance in the presence of birds.
• The toaster is intended for indoor use only.
• The toaster is intended to be used for toasting bread only. Using the toaster for
other purposes such as drying clothes may result in damaging the appliance.
Operation (see illustrations):
- (Types HD2530/32:) Insert one or two slices
of bread (fig. 1a).
- (Types HD 2550/53:) Insert one or two
slices (or one large slice) of bread. When
inserting only one small slice, place it in the
middle of the slot (fig. 1b).
- Before switching on, select the degree of
browning (fig. 2).
• Select a lower position (i.e. 1 or 2) for light
browning, for toasting only one slice or for
dry bread.
• For medium browning set the browning
selector to position 3-5.
• Select a higher position (i.e. 6 or 7) for
darker browning.
(When toasting a serie of slices, no re-
adjustment is required.)
- Switching on: the slices are lowered into the
toaster by sliding the slide switch
downwards. The light integrated in button
STOP comes on (fig. 3).
- When ready, the toast pops up automatically
(fig. 4) and the toaster switches off the
heating elements. The light integrated in
button STOP goes off.
