Gamma

Die Leuchtdichte des Bildschirms in Abhängigkeit von der Bildspannung folgt annähernd einer

mathematischen Potenzfunktion des Eingangsvideosignals, deren Exponent als Gamma bezeichnet

wird.

Grauskala, Grautreppe

Eine achromatische Skala, die vom Schwarz über eine Reihe immer hellerer Grautöne bis zum Weiß

reicht. Eine solche Reihe kann aus Stufen aufgebaut sein, die gleich weit voneinander entfernt

scheinen. Wenn der Analog-/Digital-Konverter in 8-Bit-Technik ausgeführt ist, kann der Monitor

höchstens 2

= 256 Stufen anzeigen. Bei einem Farbmonitor hat jede RGB-Farbe 256 Stufen. Somit

können insgesamt 256x256x256= 16,7 Mio. Farben angezeigt werden.

Farbton

Die wichtigste Eigenschaft einer Farbe, die sie von anderen Farben unterscheidet. So kann eine

Farbe beispielsweise einen grünen, gelben oder violetten Farbton haben. Farben, die als einen

Farbton aufweisend definiert werden, bezeichnet man als chromatische Farben. Weiß, Schwarz und

Graustufen besitzen keinen Farbton.
