EN SAFETY REGULATIONS FOR TOWBAR BIKE CARRIER
Whenever you use this product, it is important to read the following instructions: the bike carrier is a safe product if used correctly, but if it is used
incorrectly it can cause injury to you and to those driving behind you. We strongly recommend applying common sense when using the product
as although the instructions provide guidelines for a correct use of the product they may not be entirely thorough.
To mount the bike carrier safely, and to avoid injury and damages we
recommend you do the following:
1) ask the assistance of another person;
2) read the assembly instructions and make sure that you have
received all the parts of the bike carrier;
3) assemble the bike carrier with care, adhering strictly to the
instructions that you nd included in the pack. Follow the assembly
sequence as described and carefully read all the recommendations;
do not assemble the bike carrier in any way other than that
described in the instructions.
FIRST ADJUSTMENT OF THE LOCK LEVER
(for products tted with quick-release lever)
AND USE OF THE SIDE STRAPS.
It is always necessary to make the rst adjustment at the
time of purchase of the product as indicated in the assembly
instructions.
Then, every time the product is used, the clamping force must be
checked and adjusted if necessary.
In order to prevent accidents and damage it is advisable to be assisted
by another person during this stage as well, as the bike carrier needs to
be held in a horizontal position by the person assisting you while the
adjustment is being made.
Use the supplied wrench to make the adjustment. The clamping force
applied to the lever must be at least 45 kg. Once you have made the
adjustment make sure that the bike carrier does not rotate sideways
when the clamping device is closed.
Next, if indicated in the assembly instructions, proceed to fasten the
side straps. Before fastening the straps to the rear door of the car
thoroughly clean the parts of the bodywork that will be in contact
with the bike carrier’s straps. Firstly, attach the strap hooks to the edges
of the rear door then insert the straps in the buckles (make sure they
thread through in the right direction); test the eectiveness of the
straps by tugging on them. Check the tension of the straps before
driving o and at frequent intervals during the trip.
POSITIONING THE LOAD
1) Make sure that the bikes are correctly mounted and
secured as indicated in the instructions;
2) DO NOT exceed the maximum load of the bike carrier specied in
the assembling instructions.
3) Never exceed the permitted capacity of the towbar installed. The
combined weight of the bike carrier and the load must never exceed
the permitted capacity.
4) The maximum load for the bike carrier, indicated in the assembly
instructions, applies to both the moving and parked vehicle.
5) Verify and do not exceed the maximum load per bike indicated in
the assembly instructions.
6) The number of bikes carried on the product must not exceed the
number specied for the purchased model and indicated in the
assembly instructions.
7) For products tted with wheel cradles, check that the treads of the
bike wheels rest, even partially, on the tire cradles. You can always
check the compatible centre distance of the wheels on our models
by referring to the technical data sheets of the products available
online.
8) When you have nished fastening the bikes to the carrier, it is
imperative to rmly secure them with the safety strap that you
nd attached to the carrier. Once you have fastened the bikes with
the safety strap check its eectiveness by tugging on it. FAILURE
TO USE THE SAFETY STRAP COULD RESULT IN LOSING YOUR
BIKES.
9) Securing the load with bungee cords is not permitted.
10)Position the biggest and heaviest bike on the bike locator nearest
the rear door, and the lighter ones towards the outside.
11)The bike carrier is suitable only and exclusively for transporting
bikes or original accessories (e.g. box if provision has been made).
12)The carrier is designed to carry bikes with standard frames; it is
not suitable for tandem bikes. Always check the compatibility of
your bike with the carrier by referring to the technical data sheets
available online.
13)If the bicycles have carbon forks or frames, check with the bike
manufacturer or reseller if they are suitable for transporting on
a bike carrier. The manufacturer of the bike carrier accepts no
responsibility for damage to carbon forks or frames when mounting
on or using the bike carrier.
14)Before transporting bikes remove all accessories such as child
seats, baskets, rain covers or other elements that could increase
aerodynamic resistance and/or become dislodged thereby posing
a danger to other drivers and/or pedestrians.
15)Check that the bike does not protrude dangerously from either side,
for example, by turning the handlebars.
16)If any part of the bicycles comes into contact with the windows or
bodywork of the vehicle use extra protections to prevent damage.
17)For bikes without a horizontal crossbar (womens bikes) it may be
necessary to use an additional bar (optional art. 395).
18)Compatibility cannot be guaranteed for kids bikes.
19)If the vehicle is tted with automatic opening of the boot or rear
door, this function must be disabled and only manual opening
permitted while the bike carrier is secured to the towbar.
20)If the car has a swing out tailgate (e.g. vans) or particularly long
tailgates (e.g. minivans), it may not be possible to open the doors
even with the bike carrier in a tilted position.
