What kind of equipment is

audio?
Connect to an AV amplifier (that has 5.1ch audio output terminals)

[DVD-A]: This unit plays DVD-Audio in 2 channels. You cannot play
multi channel surround sound.
Can I play a DVD-Video
bought in another country?
You can play if the region number includes “1” or “ALL” and the
video standard is NTSC. Check the disc jacket.
Can I use on an airplane or in
a hospital?
Electromagnetic waves that are emitted from this unit may affect
equipment on an airplane or in a hospital.
Please obey the rules and/or instructions indicated by the hospital
or airline.
Can I connect with a
computer?
You can enjoy use of the computer as a television monitor when
connecting with the AV input terminal on a computer. However,
you cannot operate this unit as peripheral equipment.
Glossary
Down-mixing
T
his is a process of remixing the multi-channel audio (surround sound) on some discs into two
c
hannels. When you want to listen to the audio on a DVD with a 5.1 channel digital surround track
t
hrough your television speakers, the down-mixed audio will be output.
Some DVD-Audio prevent down-mixing of all or part of their contents. When playing such discs, or
s
uch parts of the disc, audio will not be output properly.
Film and video
DVD-Videos are recorded using either film or video. This unit can determine which type has been
used, then uses the most suitable method of video output for the LCD.
Film: Recorded at 24 or 30 frames per second.
Generally appropriate for motion picture films.

ideo: Recorded at 30 frames/60 fields per second. Generally appropriate for TV drama programs or
animation.
MPEG4
A
compression system for use on mobile devices or a network, that allows highly efficient recording
at a low bit rate.
Packet Writing
“Packet Writing” is one method of data recording used. Very small amounts of data referred to as
“Packets” are divided into very small units and written as “Packets”. Music CDs cannot be created

ith this method.
Sampling frequency
Sampling is the process of converting the heights of sound wave (analog signal) samples taken at

et periods into digits (digital encoding). Sampling frequency is the number of samples taken per

econd, so larger numbers mean more faithful reproduction of the original sound.
