1. Inserting the batteries
Open the battery compartment on the back of the electronic unit. Insert two AAA batteries according to
the polarities indicated inside the battery compartment. Close the battery compartment.
2. Connecting the sensor
• Guide the sensor probe through one of the openings in the lid of your barbecue. This will protect the
cable from being crushed and damaged by the lid.
• Make sure the sensor plug is inserted securely in the socket on the electronic unit.
• Any infiltration of water or steam in the socket may impair the contact and result in incorrect tempe-
rature displays. Always dry the sensor plug using a cloth before inserting it in the electronic unit.
Note: For specific applications, please refer to P oint 9 in this User Guide.
3. Switching the electronic unit on
Press and hold the [ ON / O FF ] button for 2 seconds to switch the electronic unit on or off. W hen the
electronic unit is switched on, the display will show:
“ OVEN “ (top part of the display):
“ AC TUAL “: after 3 seconds, the display will c hange from “ “ to show the current oven
temperature measurement.
“ SET “: shows the current setting for the oven temperature.
or “ TI M E R “ (top part of the display):
shows the hours/minutes/seconds value for the currently selected timer function.
“ FOO D “ (bottom part of the display):
“ AC TUAL “: after 3 seconds, the display will c hange from “ “ to show the current core
temperature measurement.
“ SET “: shows the current setting for the t arget core temperature.
Notes: T he “ O VE N “ oven temperature measurement and the “ TI M E R “ timer function can run simultaneously.
However , only one of these two functions will be shown at any time in the top part of the display .
Press the [ OVEN ] button to switch the display to the oven temperature. Press the [ TI M E R ] button
to switch the display to the timer function. If either of these functions triggers an alarm, the display will
automatically switch to the associated function.
The display has background lighting. Press any button to switch the lighting on. The lighting will
automatically switch off again if no button is pressed for 5 seconds.
4. Switching between F ahrenheit and Celsius
Press the [ °C / °F ] button to toggle between Celsius and Fahrenheit. The GO U R M ET CH EC K can
display the following temperature range: 32 °F – 5 7 2 °F / 0 °C – 3 00 °C.
Note: If the temperature exceeds 3 00 °C / 57 2 °F , the word “ ” will appear on the display.
There is no need to heat the barbecue above 3 00 °C to reach the required core temperatures of
between 37 °C and 9 0° C.
5. Activating the alarm tone
Press the [ ALE RT ] button to switch the alarm tone on or off. T he “ “ icon will appear on the display
beside “ FOO D “.
OVEN: 1 x beep (per second) / FO OD: 2 x beeps (per second)
TI M E R: 3 x beeps (per second) / OVERTI M E: 4 x beeps (per second)
Alarm priority: TI M E R > FOO D > OVEN > OVE RTI ME
6. Setting the core temperature
1. Press and hold the [ FOO D ] button. The “ FOOD S ET “ display will start to flash.
2. Press the [ + ] button to increase the core temperature by 1 °C / 1 °F . Press the [ - ] button to
reduce the core temperature by 1 °C / 1 °F . Press and hold the respective buttons to continuously
change the core temperature.
3. W ait for 3 seconds. The “ FOO D SET “ display will stop flashing and your chosen target
temperature is set.
Notes: If the measured core temperature is higher than the target temperature setting, the
G OU R M ET CH E CK will beep (2 x beeps per second), the measured core temperature display
and the “ “ icon will start to flash and the “ “ icon will appear on the display.
T o stop the beeps and the flashing “ “ icon, press any button. The temperature display will
continue to flash and the “ “ icon will remain on the display for the entire time the measured
core temperature is higher than the t arget temperature.
If the measured core temperature is still higher than the target temperature after 2 minutes, the
alarm will be triggered again.
7 . Setting the oven temperature
1. Press and hold the [ OVEN ] button. The “ OVEN S ET “ display will start to flash.
2. Press the [ + ] button to increase the oven temperature by 1 °C / 1 °F . Press the [ - ] button to
reduce the oven temperature by 1 °C / 1 °F . Press and hold the respective buttons to continuously
change the oven temperature.
3. W ait for 3 seconds. The “ OVEN S ET “ display will stop flashing and your selected target
temperature is set.
Notes: If the measured oven temperature is higher than the oven temperature setting, the
G OU R M ET CH E CK will beep (1 x beep per second), the measured oven temperature display
and the “ “ icon will st art to flash, and the “ “ icon will appear on the display .
T o stop the beeps and the flashing “ “ icon, press any button. The temperature display will
continue to flash and the “ “ icon will remain on the display for the entire time the measured
core temperature is higher than the t arget temperature.
If the measured oven temperature is still higher than the target temperature after 2 minutes, the alarm will
be triggered again.
8a. Setting the countdown timer
1. Press and hold the [ TI M E R ] button. The hour figures will start to flash.
2. If any of the timer functions is running, press the [ ST ART / ST OP ] button to stop the timer function.
3. Press the [ + ] and [ - ] buttons simultaneously to reset the display to “0:00:00“.
4. Press the [ + ] button to increase the hour value by 1. Press the [ - ] button to reduce the hour value
by 1. Press and hold the respective buttons to continuously change the value. T he “ “ icon will now
appear on the display .
5. Press the [ TI M E R ] button again. The minute figures will start to flash.
6. Press the [ + ] button to increase the minute value by 1. Press the [ - ] button to reduce the minute
value by 1. Press and hold the respective buttons to continuously change the value.
7. Press the [ ST ART / ST OP ] button to st art the countdown timer function. The “ “ icon will now
flash once per second.
8. T o change the value for the countdown timer, repeat steps 1, 2 and 4 to 7 .
Notes: When the timer reaches “0:00:00“, the G OU R M ET C H EC K will beep (3 x beeps per second)
and the timer display and the “ “ icon will flash for 20 seconds. T o stop the beeps and the flashing
““ icon, press any button.
The Overtime timer will start to run and the “ “ icon will flash continuously. W hen the Overtime timer
reaches the upper limit of “9:59:59“, the display will be reset to “0:00:00“. The G OU R M ET C H ECK will
beep (4 x beeps per second) and the timer display will flash for 20 seconds.
T o change the value for the overtime timer, repeat steps 1, 2 and 4 to 7 explained above.
8b. Setting the count-up timer
1. Press and hold the [ TI M E R ] button. The hour figures will start to flash.
2. If any of the timer functions is running, press the [ ST ART / ST OP ] button to stop the timer function.
3. Press the [ + ] and [ - ] buttons simultaneously to reset the display to “0:00:00“.
4. Press the [ ST ART / ST OP ] button to st art the count-up timer function. The “ “ icon will now flash
once per second.
5. T o change the value for the count-up timer, repeat steps 1, 2 and 4 to 7 in the countdown timer
instructions.
Note: W hen the count-up timer reaches the upper limit of “9:59:59“, the display will be reset to
“0:00:00“. The GO U R M ET CH EC K will beep (4 x beeps per second) and the timer display and the “ “
icon will flash for 20 seconds. T o stop the beeps and the flashing “ “ icon, press any button.
9. Using the GOU R M ET CH ECK thermometer
Using on a barbecue:
• The electronic unit must be placed outside the barbecue.
• Do not attach the G OU R M ET C HE CK to the barbecue kettle, the barbecue lid or the control panel.
• In the case of barbecues without side shelves, we recommend using the OUTD OO RC HEF
removable side shelf or positioning a table close to the barbecue.
• Do not touch the probe or cable without heat-resistant gloves.
Gas barbecue:
• Start your gas barbecue as usual.
• Programme the G OU R M ET CH E CK as required.
• Guide the sensor probe through one of the openings in the lid and insert the sensor plug into the
socket on the electronic unit.
• Insert the probe no further than the middle of the food to be grilled.
• Close the lid.
Note: If you ignite the gas barbecue again later, the resulting electrost atic charge may cause the
G OU R M ET CH E CK to malfunction. This fault is purely temporary and has no lasting effect on
the correct operation of the G O U R MET C H EC K. Y ou may, however, need to reprogramme your
GOURME T CHEC K.
Charcoal barbecue:
• Start your charcoal barbecue as usual.
• Programme the G OU R M ET CH E CK as required.
• Guide the sensor probe through one of the ventilation slots on the top of the lid and insert the
sensor plug into the socket on the electronic unit.
• Insert the probe no further than the middle of the food to be grilled.
• Close the lid.
Using with the oven:
• The electronic unit must be placed outside the oven.
• Insert the probe no further than the middle of the food to be roasted.
• The sensor cable is secured by the oven door .
• Do not touch the probe or cable without heat-resistant gloves.
10. Cleaning
Clean the cable and probe thoroughly after each use. Use a damp cloth and some washing-up liquid to
carefully rub off stains. Wipe with a fresh damp cloth and then dry the sensor using a soft cloth. If the
cable or probe have become discoloured and brown, we recommend cleaning them using a standard
steel wool pad.
Do not wash either the electronic unit or the sensor in running water or immerse them in any way . This
could cause irreparable damage to your G OU R M ET CH E CK.

• The manufacturer and its suppliers accept no responsibility for any damages or losses resulting from
improper use of this product.
