EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM (EAS)
The Emergency Alert System (EAS) uses the latest
technology to allow local authorities to broadcast
important emergency information to specific areas.
The Emergency Alert system was originally designed
as a communications link between the President and
the general public during times of emergency. The
EAS communication link is instant and can target the
State, National, and Local Area levels. The EAS and
NWS share the same digital signal used on the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Weather
Radio (NWR). Ultimately, the purpose of EAS is to
deliver emergency alert information to those who need
it.
