Battery
The b attery is m ainte nanc e-free .
Retrofitted electrical or electronic
accessories can pla ce an additional loa d
on the battery or even discharge the
battery. Consult a workshop regard ing
tec hnical p ossibilities, such a s fitting
a more powerful battery.
Laying up the vehicle for more than
4 weeks can lead to battery discharge,
which may reduce the service life of the
battery. Disconnect battery from on-board
power supply by detaching negative
terminal.
Ensure that the ignition is switched off
before connecting battery. Then perform
the following actions:
z Set date and time in the ra dio disp la y
see section “Infotainment system 3” on
page 78.
In order to prevent the battery from
disch arging, some con sume rs such as th e
courtesy lamps automatically switch off
after approx. 20 minutes.
Protection of
electronic components
In orde r to prev ent faults in elec tronic
components in the electrical system, never
connect or disconnect battery with the
engine running or the ignition switched on.
Never start engine w ith battery
disconnected, e.g. when starting using
jump leads.
To avoid damaging the vehicle, do not
make a ny modifications to the electrical
system, e.g. connecting ad ditional
consum ers or tampering with electronic
control units (chip tuning).
Disconnecting/connecting the battery
from /t o the electr ical s y st em
Disconnect the b attery from the vehicle
electrical system before charging :
First detach the negative and then the
positive lea d. Do not reverse the p olarity of
the battery, i.e. do not confuse the
term ina ls for the positive and negative
leads. When connecting, start with the
positive lead and then connect the
negative lead.

Have battery changes carried out by a
workshop who knows the laws
concerning the disposal of used batteries
and therefore protects the e nvironm ent
and your health.

Electronic ignition systems use a very
high voltage. Do not touch the ignition
sy ste m; da ng er to life.
