Choose how the camera meters subject brightness.

the metering item using FG.

Digital ESP
metering
The camera meters exposure in 324 areas of the frame
and optimizes exposure for the current scene or (if [ON]
is selected for [g FACE PRIORITY]) portrait subject.
This mode is recommended for general use.
H
Center weighted
averaging
metering
This metering mode provides the average
metering between the subject and the
background lighting, placing more weight on the
subject at the center.
I
Spot metering
Choose this option to meter a small area
(about 2% of the frame) with the camera
pointed at the object you wish to meter.
Exposure will be adjusted according to the
brightness at the metered point.
IHI
Spot metering -
highlight control
Increases spot metering exposure. Ensures bright
subjects appear bright.
ISH
Spot metering -
shadow control
Lowers spot metering exposure. Ensures dark subjects
appear dark.

Press the shutter button halfway.
Normally, the camera will start metering when the shutter button is pressed
halfway and lock exposure while the shutter button is held in this position.
Exposure lock (AE lock)
To lock exposure without locking focus, press the
< or R button. Exposure lock can be used when
you want to set focus and exposure separately while
recomposing photographs, or if you want to take a
series of photographs at the same exposure.
Assign AEL/AFL to the < or R button using
[<FUNCTION] or [RFUNCTION].

AE lock
Exposure locks and a B icon is displayed when the button is pressed once.
Press the shutter button to take a picture.
Press the button again to cancel AE lock.
