only on a stable tripod, stand, or bracket. Follow the instructions that describe

Safety Precautions

plug (a plug with one blade wider than the other). This safety feature allows the

plug to fit into the power outlet only one way. If you cannot insert the plug into

the wall outlet, pull it out, reverse it, and then reinsert it. If the plug still fails to

fit, contact an electrician and have the receptacle replaced.

Protecting the Power Cord — The power supply cord should be placed so it will

not be walked on. Never put a heavy object on the power cord or wrap it around

the leg of a table or chair. Keep the area around the power cord connection

points, at the power outlet, and at the product connection, free of all AC adapter

Weatherproof feature

This camera is weatherproof, but it cannot be used underwater.

Olympus will not assume any responsibility for malfunction of the camera

caused by water getting inside as a result of misuse by the user.

The camera is weatherproof and is not damaged by water spray from any

direction.

Observe the following precautions when using the camera.

Water may get inside the camera if the battery compartment/card cover or

connector cover are not firmly closed so close them firmly.

• If the camera gets splashed, wipe the water off as soon as possible with

a dry cloth.

• The rechargeable battery and other camera accessories are not

weatherproof.

UNPACKING THE BOX CONTENTS

Attach the strap as shown.

Note

Be careful with the strap when you carry the camera, as it can easily catch on

stray objects, causing injury or damage.

Do not swing the camera around by the strap or pull the strap with excessive

force as this may cause the strap to break.

Attach the strap correctly as shown above so that the camera does not fall off.

If the strap is attached incorrectly and the camera falls off, Olympus is not

responsible for any damages.

CHARGING THE BATTERY

The battery is not fully charged at the time of purchase. Charge the

battery fully with the LI-10C charger before use.

Connect the power cable.

Insert the battery into the charger.

TIPS

The LI-12B battery takes approximately 120 minutes to charge.

Note

This camera uses an Olympus LI-12B/LI-10B lithium ion battery. No other

type of battery can be used.

Use only the specified charger.

Battery life varies depending on shooting conditions, etc.

The charger can be used within the range of AC100V to AC240V (50/60Hz).

When using the charger abroad, you may need a plug adapter to convert the

plug to the shape of the AC wall outlet. For details, ask at your local electrical

shop or travel agent.

Do not use voltage converters sold in stores traveling overseas as this could

damage your charger.

Note

The card may not record properly if it is not inserted all the way in.

Releasing your finger quickly after pushing the card all the way in may

cause it to eject forcefully out of the slot.

Note

The amount of power consumed by the camera varies considerably

depending on shooting conditions, etc.

Power is consumed continuously during the conditions described below. This

discourages the power from lasting longer.

When the monitor is in playback mode for an extended period of time.

Repeated zoom adjustments.

Repeated auto focus by depressing the shutter button halfway.

When connected to a computer or printer.

If you use an exhausted battery, the camera may turn off without displaying

the battery level warning.

This camera uses an xD-Picture Card (16 – 512MB).

Note

This camera may not recognize a non-OLYMPUS card or a card that was

formatted on another device (such as a computer, etc.). Before use, be sure

to format the card on this camera.

Do not press on the card with hard or pointed items such as ballpoint pens.

Never open the battery compartment/card cover, or remove the card or the

battery while the camera is turned on. Doing so could destroy the data stored

on the card. Once destroyed, data cannot be restored.

Do not place a sticker or label on the card as this could prevent the card from

being ejected.

TURNING THE CAMERA ON

Set the mode dial to K and press the POWER

switch.

Note

To save battery power, the camera automatically enters the sleep mode and

stops operating after about 3 minutes of non-operation. The camera activates

again as soon as you operate the shutter button or zoom button.

15 minutes after the camera enters sleep mode, the camera retracts the lens

and turns off automatically. Turn the camera on to use.

TURNING THE CAMERA ON

The battery check indicator changes according to how much power is

remaining.

The first time you use the camera, "Y/M/D"

is displayed prompting you to enter the date

and time. See "Setting the date and time" in

Chapter 7 of the Advanced Manual. The

camera operates without making this

setting.

The language for on-screen display varies

depending on the area where you

purchased this camera. The language for

on-screen display in Basic Manual and

Advanced Manual is the same as the box

description. To change the language, refer

to the "Selecting a language" in Chapter 7

of the Advanced Manual.

TAKING A PICTURE

Take the picture.

Note

Press the shutter button gently. If it is pressed hard, the camera may move

and pictures may come out blurred.

Never open the battery compartment/card cover, remove the battery or

disconnect the AC adapter while the lamp on the camera is blinking red. Doing

so could destroy stored pictures and prevent storage of pictures you have just

taken.

Recorded pictures are saved on the card regardless of whether the camera

is turned off or the battery is replaced or removed.

When taking pictures against strong backlight, the area of the picture in

shadow may appear colored.

Every time you press the shutter button, the memory gauge lights indicating

that the picture you have just taken is being recorded onto the card. The

memory gauge changes according to how many pictures the camera is

processing. This indicator is not displayed while recording movies.

접지, 양극화 — 이 제품을 지정된 AC 어댑터와 함께 사용할 수 있다면 해당 어댑

터에는 양극화 되어 있는 교류 라인 플러그(한 쪽 날이 다른 쪽 날에 비해 넓은

플러그)가 장착되어 있을 것입니다. 이 안전 기능은 플러그가 콘센트에 한쪽 방

향으로만 끼워지도록 합니다. 콘센트에 플러그가 끼워지지 않으면 플러그를 뺀

본 카메라는 생활방수 기능을 가지고 있으나 물 속에서는 사용할 수 없습

Olympus는 사용자의 실수로 인해 카메라 내부에 물이 들어가 카메라가

고장난 경우 책임을 지지 않습니다.

본 카메라는 생활방수 기능을 가지고 있으며 어느 방향에서 물이 뿌려져

도 손상되지 않습니다.

카메라 사용 시에는 다음 주의 사항을 지켜주시기 바랍니다.

카메라 내부로 수분이 들어갈 수 있으므로 배터리부/카드 커버 또는 커넥터

커버를 단단히 잘 닫으십시오.

• 카메라에 물이 튄 경우 가능한 빨리 마른 천으로 물을 닦아 내십시오.

카메라를 스트랩에 끼워 소지할 때에는 스트랩이 튀어나온 물건에 걸려서 상

처나 손상을 입을 수 있으니 주의하시기 바랍니다.

힘을 세게 주어 스트랩을 잡아 당기거나 스트랩을 잡고 카메라를 돌리면 스트

랩이 끊어질 수 있습니다.

스트랩을 위의 그림에 따라 정확히 연결하여 카메라가 떨어지지 않도록 하십

시오. 스트랩을 잘못 연결하여 카메라가 떨어질 경우 Olympus는 어떠한 손상

배터리 충전

구입 시 배터리는 완전히 충전되어 있지 않습니다. 사용하기 전에 LI-10C

충전기를 이용해 배터리를 완전히 충전시키십시오.

전원 케이블을 연결하십시오.

충전기에 배터리를 끼우십시오.

팁

LI-12B 배터리의 충전 소요 시간은 약 120분입니다.

참고

이 카메라는 Olympus LI-12B/LI-10B 리튬 이온 배터리를 사용합니다. 다른 종

류의 배터리는 사용할 수 없습니다.

지정된 충전기만 사용하십시오.

배터리 수명은 촬영 여건 등에 따라 달라집니다.

충전기는 AC100V ~ AC240V (50/60Hz) 범위내에서 사용할 수 있습니다. 충

전기를 해외에서 사용할 때는 플러그를 AC 콘센트의 모양에 맞게 변환하기 위

한 플러그 어댑터가 필요합니다. 자세한 사항은 지역 전자제품 판매점이나 여

행사에 문의하십시오.

해외 여행 도중 상점에서 판매되는 변압기는 충전기를 손상시킬 수 있으므로

카메라가 소비하는 전력량은 촬영 조건 등에 따라 큰 차이가 있을 수 있습니다.

다음과 같은 상태에서는 전원이 지속적으로 소비됩니다. 이 경우 전원이 오래

지속되지 못합니다.

모니터가 장시간 재생 모드에 있을 때

줌 조절을 반복적으로 사용할 때

셔터 버튼을 반누름하여 자동 초점 기능을 반복 사용할 때

컴퓨터나 프린터에 연결했을 때

소진된 배터리를 사용하면 배터리 부족 경고가 표시되지 않고 카메라가 꺼질

수 있습니다.

이 카메라는 xD-Picture Card (16 – 512MB)를 사용합니다.

참고

다른 장치(컴퓨터 등)로 포맷한 카드나 OLYMPUS 이외의 카드는 인식하지 못

할 수 있습니다. 따라서 카드를 사용하기 전에 본 카메라로 포맷하십시오.

볼펜 등과 같이 딱딱하거나 뾰족한 물건으로 카드를 누르지 마십시오.

카메라가 켜져 있을 때는 절대 배터리부/카드 커버를 열거나, 카드나 배터리를

꺼내지 마십시오. 이 경우 카드에 저장된 데이터가 손상될 수 있습니다. 손상

된 데이터는 복구할 수 없습니다.
