13. Take the sieve holder by the handle and turn it one turn to the left towards the open lock symbol the sieve holder detaches
from the appliance and drops down slightly
14. Rinse the sieve holder together with the sieve and dry with a soft cloth
Note: When using the machine for the first time, make approx. 5 cups of espresso and discard them. These first cups do not taste very
good yet.
Preheating the cups
When the espresso machine is ready for use, the warming plate at the top of the machine heats up. Here you can place the espresso
cups to already warm them up a little.
You can also warm up the cup in which you want to make the espresso by flushing it. With this operation, you heat up both the sieve,
the sieve holder and the cup you want to use in 1 go. This explanation follows in these instructions under Flushing
It is also possible to preheat the cup with water coming from the steam pipe. This explanation follows further in this instruction under
the Hot Water Preparation section.
Flushing, preheating the sieve and sieve unit
Before using the sieve and sieving unit, flush them with warm water. Preheating these 2 parts both improves the flavour of the
espresso. This method is called flushing.
What should you pay attention to?
- The machine should be ready for use, the blue LED lights of both the single and double espresso button should be on
continuously.
The dial on the side of the machine for the steam supply is in the "-" position (off)
- Place the selected sieve with the sieve holder without espresso powder, when placing the sieve holder on the machine, follow
the previously indicated steps from the open latch to the closed latch position.
- Place a cup under the sieve holder
- Press the selected espresso button (single or double) and stop the flow after about 40ml of water has entered the cup (this
corresponds to one espresso)
- Press the espresso button again to stop the water flow
- Leave the hot water in the cup and, in the meantime, prepare the process for actually making an espresso. Only then when
you are about to make the espresso pour the water from the cup to be used
- When you go to put the espresso powder in the sieve make sure it can be hot. It should also be dry before you place the
espresso powder in it.
Measuring and mashing the espresso powder
CAUTION!
Espresso powder comes in different varieties. It is important to pay attention to the right grinding degree of the espresso
powder you purchase. The grind level must be fine. This is usually indicated on the packaging
For a single espresso, you usually need 8 to 10 grams of espresso powder while for a double it is 16 to 20 grams.
Pressing the espresso powder into the sieve aims to ensure that it enters the sieve evenly. The top layer should be flat and without
cracks/openings, so that the water will be squeezed evenly through the powder when merging. If there are thin spots or openings, the
water will find its way through this to the detriment of the aroma and flavour.
