Using the Wii Remote
Setup of the Wii Remote
The Wii Remote comes with the Wii Remote Jacket attached to it.
Nintendo recommends leaving this jacket in place on the Wii Remote to
avoid harm to the Wii Remote or surrounding objects, or injury to other people,
if you lose your grip on the Wii Remote.
The Wii Remote uses AA batteries. Nintendo recommends high-quality alkaline
batteries for best performance and longevity of battery life.
FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS COULD RESULT IN THE BATTERIES MAKING
“POPPING” SOUNDS AND LEAKING BATTERY ACID RESULTING IN PERSONAL INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE
TO YOUR Wii REMOTE. IF A BATTERY OR BATTERY FLUID IS ACCIDENTALLY INGESTED, CONSULT
A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY. IF LEAKED BATTERY FLUID COMES INTO CONTACT WITH YOUR EYES, IM-
MEDIATELY FLUSH YOUR EYES THOROUGHLY WITH WATER AND SEE A DOCTOR, AS IT MAY RESULT
IN BLINDNESS OR OTHER INJURY. IF LEAKED BATTERY FLUID COMES INTO CONTACT WITH YOUR
BODY OR HANDS, WASH THOROUGHLY WITH SOAP AND WATER. IF LEAKED BATTERY FLUID COMES
INTO CONTACT WITH YOUR Wii REMOTE, CAREFULLY WIPE THE Wii REMOTE, AVOIDING DIRECT
CONTACT WITH YOUR HANDS. CONTACT THE BATTERY MANUFACTURER FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.
1. For the Wii Remote, Nintendo recommends high-quality alkaline batteries. It is also possible to use
Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) rechargeable batteries. Please follow the battery manufacturer’s guidelines
for safety and proper usage, as failure to do so could damage the Wii Remote and voids your warranty.
2. Do not mix used and new batteries (replace all batteries at the same time).
3. Do not put the batteries in backwards (positive (+) and negative (–) terminals must face the proper direc-
tion). Insert the negative end first. The supply terminals are not to be short-circuited.
4. Do not leave flat batteries in the Wii Remote.
5. Do not mix battery types and do not mix different brands of batteries. Use only batteries of the same or
equivalent type as recommended.
6. Do not leave batteries in the Wii Remote for long periods of non-use.
7. When the batteries become drained, take them out of the Wii Remote.
8. Do not expose batteries to heat or dispose of batteries in a fire.
9. Do not use a battery if the plastic cover has been torn or damaged in any way.
10. GENERAL NOTE: If you decide to use Nickel Metal Hydride rechargeable batteries please note that
rechargeable batteries are to be removed from the Wii Remote before charging. Rechargeable batteries
are only to be recharged under adult supervision.
11. Non-rechargeable batteries are not to be recharged.
12. The batteries are to be removed from the Wii Remote before disposing of the unit. For disposal of the
AA batteries, please refer to the “Battery Disposal” information below.
Battery Disposal
• Discarding the batteries in your general household waste can be harmful to the environment. When disposing
of the batteries, follow appropriate local guidelines and regulations.
• In accordance with the Directive on Batteries and Accumulators and Waste Batteries and Accumulators
(2006/66/EC), battery collection and recycling schemes should be in place in all EU Member States by
26
th
September 2008. Such schemes may already be available in your country, in which case the batteries
should not be disposed of in your general household waste. For further information contact your local
solid waste authority.
! WARNING – BATTERY PRECAUTIONS
Not suitable for children under 36 months of age. The Wii Remote Wrist Strap can coil around the neck.
! WARNING
2. Pull the jacket up the Wii
Remote far enough to
expose the entire battery
cover and remove the
battery cover.
3. Insert the batteries into the
battery chamber. Be sure
to insert the minus (-) end
first when inserting new
batteries, and remove the
plus (+) end first when
replacing the batteries.
4. Replace the battery cover,
thread the Wii Remote
Wrist Strap through the
hole in the bottom of the
jacket and pull the jacket
back over the bottom of
the Wii Remote.
5. If you remove the jacket
from the Wii Remote, replace
it by inserting the top of the
Wii Remote into the large
hole on the front of the
jacket. Be sure to push it
all the way into the inside
of the jacket.
6. Thread the Wii Remote Wrist Strap through
the hole in the bottom of the jacket, as shown
in step 4.
7. Insert the connector cover
into the External Extension
Connector on the bottom
of the Wii Remote.
Installing Batteries
1. Pull the Wii Remote Jacket
off the base of the Wii
Remote and pull the Wii
Remote Wrist Strap out of
the hole in the bottom of
the jacket.
Always keep a firm grip on the Wii Remote and Nunchuk (if being used). Use the Wii Remote Wrist Strap at
all times to prevent losing your grip on the Wii Remote and possibly causing damage to the Wii Remote and
surrounding objects, or injury to other people. Please ensure there is sufficient distance from other people
and objects when playing Wii games. Stop playing and dry your hands if they become sweaty or wet. The
Wii Remote responds to minor movements so do not use excessive, rapid or wide swinging motions.
ALWAYS WEAR THE WRIST STRAP WHEN USING THE Wii REMOTE
Make sure all players use the wrist strap and that the strap lock is correctly tightened.
When sharing the Wii Remote between multiple players, make sure that each person using the Wii Remote
uses the wrist strap properly.
Wearing the wrist strap will help prevent the Wii Remote from flying across the room or being dropped if you
accidentally let go of it during game play.
HOLD THE Wii REMOTE (AND THE NUNCHUK IF BEING USED) FIRMLY; DON’T LET GO,
AND DON’T USE EXCESSIVE MOTION DURING GAME PLAY
Even while wearing the wrist strap, make sure you don’t let go of the Wii Remote during game play.
You should NEVER let go of the Nunchuk (if being used) or let it swing loose during game play.
Follow the game instructions for releasing or letting go of on-screen objects like balls, swords and the like.
Usually you do this by releasing or pushing a button on the Wii Remote. You should NEVER let go of the
Wii Remote itself to perform a function in the game.
! CAUTION – USE THE Wii REMOTE WRIST STRAP
