3. Disk and RAID management
3.1 Disks and volumes
see 1.1
Shows information about your installed hard disk drives.
3.3 S.M.A.R.T.
S.M.A.R.T. is short for Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology helps you monitor
the health and status of your drives. The S.M.A.R.T. values are read from the drives directly
and are not linked to your NAS. For detailed information on S.M.A.R.T. values please contact
the vendor or manufacturer of your hard disk drive.
4. Access / rights management
NOTE: It is recommended to create user accounts first, then, if desired, proceed with group
setup and create shared folders at the end.
4.1 Users
In this section, you can add or change user accounts. When adding a new user, you can
decide if you want to create a home directory for this user. That folder will be available only
to that user. We suggest using self-explanatory and easy memorable user names.
4.2 Groups
This section allows you to merge users in groups. This will simplify access rights management
when you have many user accounts installed. You dont have to create groups. Access
rights management is available on user level, too. When dealing with a low amount of user
accounts or if it is not possible to merge user accounts to logical groups, we recommend
skipping group management. We suggest using self-explanatory and easy memorable group
names. It is not possible to add users to the adm default group.
4.3 Shared folders
This menu gives to access to shard folder creation and rights management. If you decided to
use user groups, it’s recommend to assign rights to groups and use single user permissions
only when necessary. If you do not use user groups, assign the permissions directly to the
user accounts.
5. Network services
Activate or deactivate the integrated network services such as FTP, SSH or NFS. By default, all
network services are enabled and work on the standard port for corresponding protocol.
FTP (Port 21):
The File Transfer Protocol is supported in standard mode without encryption. All users,
except the admin user, have access to their home directory only. Users without an assigned
home directory cannot connect to the FTP server.
