2 Safety Notes
This unit corresponds to all required directives of
the EU and is therefore marked with .
Please observe the following items in any case:
G
The unit is suitable for indoor use only. Protect
it against dripping water and splash water,
high air humidity and heat (admissible ambi-
ent temperature range 0 40 °C).
G
Do not place any vessel filled with liquid on the
unit, e. g. a drinking glass.
G
The heat generated within the unit must be
dissipated by air circulation; therefore, never
cover the air vents on the housing.
G
Do not operate the unit and immediately dis-
connect the mains plug from the socket
1. if the unit or the mains cable is visibly dam-
aged,
2. if a defect might have occurred after the unit
was dropped or suffered a similar accident,
3. if malfunctions occur.
In any case the unit must be repaired by
skilled personnel.
G
Never pull the mains cable to disconnect the
mains plug from the socket, always seize the
plug.
G
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth; never
use water or chemicals.
G
No guarantee claims for the unit and no liabil-
ity for any resulting personal damage or mate-
rial damage will be accepted if the unit is used
for other purposes than originally intended, if it
is not correctly connected or operated, or if it
is not repaired in an expert way.
G
Important for U. K. Customers!
The wires in this mains lead are coloured in
accordance with the following code:
green/yellow = earth
blue = neutral
brown = live
As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of
this appliance may not correspond with the
coloured markings identifying the terminals in
your plug, proceed as follows:
1. The wire which is coloured green and yel-
low must be connected to the terminal in the
plug which is marked with the letter E or by
the earth symbol , or coloured green or
green and yellow.
2. The wire which is coloured blue must be
connected to the terminal which is marked
with the letter N or coloured black.
3. The wire which is coloured brown must be
connected to the terminal which is marked
with the letter L or coloured red.
Warning – This appliance must be earthed.
3 Applications
The powered mixer PMX-162 in a rugged,
portable housing is specially designed for musi-
cians and applications on stage.
The PMX-162 combines a 6-channel mixer
and a mono power amplifier. In addition, it fea-
tures a built-in USB player. An integrated effect
processor will create echo effects, separately
adjustable for each input channel. It will also be
possible to connect an external effect unit for
processing the master signal.
4 Connection
Prior to connecting any units or to changing any
existing connections, switch off the powered
mixer.
4.1 Audio sources
1) Connect microphones to the XLR jacks MIC
(1). The XLR jacks are designed for balanced
signals.
If required, it will be possible to activate a
central 15 V phantom power supply for all
MIC inputs (necessary when using capacitor
microphones operating with this phantom
power supply): Engage the button PHAN-
TOM POWER (7); the LED above the button
will light up to indicate activation.
2) Connect audio units with line signal level
to the 6.3 mm jacks LINE (3). These jacks are
designed for unbalanced signals.
Connect line units with mono output (e. g.
instrument preamplifiers) to the mono
inputs of the channels 1 4.
Connect line units with stereo output (e. g.
keyboard) to the stereo inputs of the chan-
nels 5 and 6.
The RCA jacks CD INPUT (22) on the rear
panel of the unit allow connection of an addi-
tional stereo unit with line signal level (e. g. a
CD player or the replay output of a recorder).
Note: In each channel 1 6
either
use the input MIC
or
the input LINE; it will not be possible to switch over
between the two inputs.
4.2 Effect unit
For processing the master signal, it will be pos-
sible to connect an effect unit via the two unbal-
anced 6.3 mm jacks EFFECT LOOP (23):
1) Connect the input of the effect unit to the out-
put SEND.
2) Connect the output of the effect unit to the
input RETURN.
Note: The signal in the powered mixer will be inter-
rupted if only one of the two jacks is connected or if the
effect unit connected is not switched on, if it is defective
or if it is not correctly connected. In this case, no sound
will be reproduced via the speaker / speakers.
4.3 Recorder or additional amplifier
The RCA jacks TAPE REC (24) allow connection
of a stereo recorder or of another stereo unit with
line input (e. g. an additional amplifier). At these
jacks, the mixed signal of the audio sources will be
available, unaffected by the adjustments of an
effect unit connected (
chapter 4.2), the 5-band
equalizer (6) and the control MASTER (10).
CAUTION
G
Do not connect any microphones with
unbalanced output when the phantom
power has been activated; otherwise
these microphones may be damaged.
G
To prevent switching noise, only actuate
the button when the powered mixer has
been switched off.
If the unit is to be put out of operation
definitively, take it to a local recycling
plant for a disposal which is not harmful
to the environment.
WARNING The unit uses dangerous mains
voltage. Leave servicing to skilled
personnel only and never insert
anything into the air vents; inex-
pert handling may result in electric
shock!
IMPORTANT: The total impedance of the
speakers must not fall below 4 Ω.
