Please read these instructions thoroughly, before using the UV-C unit! Otherwise you may not use
it!
This appliance is not suitable for use by persons (including children) with limited physical, sensory or mental
capabilities or lacking experience and/or knowledge, except if they are supervised by a person responsible
for their safety or have been instructed in the use of the appliance.
Children should be supervised in order to make sure that they do not play with the appliance.
Use
This UV-C unit is suitable for use in garden or fi sh ponds helping to clear polluted pond water.
It is not allowed to use the unit in or on the side of swimming pools!
Please refer to the type plate for technical specifi cations or the table on page 1.
Safety measures
- Cautio! UV-C radiation is dangerous to eyes and skin!
Do operate the UV-C unit only inside the casing.
Translucent connections allow you to check easily and safely that the unit is working properly.
- It may only be used in garden ponds and in their protection area, if the installations have been set up to
comply with the code’s requirements. Please contact an electrician.
- The UV-C unit has to be connected to a regular safety plug socket through a circuit breaker
(ground fault circuit interruptor, 30 mA).
- Before use: Check whether mains connection and electrical box are intact.
- The mains connection of the electrical box cannot be replaced. If the connection is damaged the device
has to be scrapped.
- If the mains connection between electrical box and UV-C unit is damaged it must be replaced by the
manufacturer or his customer service or similarly qualifi ed personnel in order to avoid dangers.
- Mains voltage and type of current have to correspond to the data on the type plate of the electrical box.
- The connection box and the UV-C unit should be located in a waterprotected area. They should be at
least 3,5 m away from the edge of the pond (see fi g. A + B)
- Keep the plug dry!
- Pull out mains plug before starting to work on the UV-C unit, garden or fi sh pond. (Disconnect the
electrical box.)
- It is not allowed to run the UV-C unit when people are inside the water!
- Do never immerse the UV-C unit in water and make sure that the unit may not be fl ooded.
- Do never hang up or transport the UV-C unit by the cables.
- Avoid exposure to intense sunlight.
Start-up (see fi g. A - C)
Important! Make sure that water always passes through the UV-C unit during operation. Otherwise
the unit could be damaged.
- You should only connect a pump with a max.
delivery head of 10 m (1 bar).
- The water temperature
Tmax.
should not exceed 35° C.
- Fasten the UV-C unit by means of the fi xing stands (15) in a fl ood-proof position.
- The quartz glass tube (2) will be polluted by the pond water, thus reducing the UV-C performance.
This needs cleaning of the quartz glass tube (2) at regular intervals according to the degree of pollution.
- The UV-C lamp (1) has a rated life of approx. 8000 hours. After that it should be replaced, at least at the
end of one season (from March till October).
- We recommend you to run the unit 24 hours a day (continuous use). Avoid frequent switching (on/off).
This will reduce the lifetime of the UV-C lamp.
- Connect the translucent connections of the UV-C unit to your fi ltration system (hoses, pumps, fi lters…).
You should use only fl at gasket rings for sealing your hose connectors, joining rings or sealing liquids may
damage the threaded connection.
- The connections may be turned against each other. For this purpose you should loosen and remove the
union nuts (11) of the red end caps (9) and slightly loosen the pressure plates (6) as well (see fi g. C).
Cleaning and changing the lamp UV-C 8 - 55 W (see fi g. C)
Dismantling
1. Follow the safety measures.
2. Disconnect the UV-C unit and secure against reclosing.
3. Pour out the water completely.
4. Loosen the two union nuts (11) of the red end caps (9) and draw off both pieces.
5. Remove the lampholders (3) from the UV-C lamp (1).
6. Pull the UV-C lamp (1) out with caution and replace it, if necessary. Old lamps should not be broken
and disposed of in the household refuse. Please contact your local company responsible for refuse
collection.
7. Turn out the pressure plates (6) and draw the O-rings (7) from the quartz glass tube (2).
8. Remove the quartz glass tube (2) carefully and clean it thoroughly. Do avoid using any sharp
instruments. If the quartz glass tube (2) or the O-rings (7) are damaged, they should be replaced.
Assembly UV-C 8 - 55 W
9. Carefully insert the quartz glass tube (2) into the casing and push the two O-rings (7) uniformly.
10. Tighten the two pressure plates (6).
11. Put the UV-C unit into operation (connect the pump), make the water circulate and check the pressure
plates in order to see whether the unit is water-proof. Do assemble only waterproof units completely and
connect these to the mains supply.
12. Insert the UV-C lamp (1) carefully into the quartz glass tube (2).
13. Put the lampholders (3) onto the lamp sockets. On one side there is the starter socket (4) with
starter (5) at the back of the lampholder (3).
14. Care about the O-ring (8) at the pressure plate (6).
15. Put on the red end caps (9) and tighten the union nuts (11).
Lamp replacement UV-C 75 W (see Fig. D)
1. Comply with safety measures.
2. Disconnect UV-C clarifi er from the mains supply and safeguard it from being switched on again.
3. Unscrew the cap nuts (11) on the red end caps (9A + 9B) and pull off the parts.
4. Pull the lamp socket (3) off of the UV-C lamp (1).
5. Carefully take out the UV-C lamp (1) in direction 9B, and if necessary replace it with a new lamp.
Old UV-C lamps must not be broken, and they must be disposed of in your household waste.
Please contact your waste disposal authority or company.
6. Carefully slide the UV-C lamp (1) into the quartz glass tube (2).
7. Fit the lamp socket (3) onto the UV-C lamp (1). The starter socket (4) with the starter (5) is behind the
lamp socket (3).
8. Fit on the red end caps (9A + 9B) and screw on the cap nuts (11) tightly. Pay attention to the O-ring (8)!
Cleaning the UV-C 75 W (see Fig. D)
1. Open the UV-C clarifi er as described in points 1-5 (lamp replacement and take out the UVC lamp (1).
2. Let the water completely run out of the UV-C clarifi er.
3. Unscrew pressure pieces (6A + 6B with lamp holder 6C) and pull the O-rings (7) off of the quartz glass
tube (2).
4. Carefully pull the quartz glass tube (2) out of the housing and clean it thoroughly. Do not use any
sharp-edged tools. If the quartz glass tube (2) or the O-rings (7) are defective, they must be replaced.
Installation UV-C 75 W
6. Carefully introduce the quartz glass tube (2) into the housing and slide on both two O-rings (7) uniformly.
7. Firmly screw in the pressure piece (6B).
8. Firmly screw in pressure piece (6A with bulb socket 6C).
9. Place the UV-C clarifi er in service (connect the pump), let the water circulate and examine the pressure
pieces to check whether the device is sealed. Only install complete devices and connect them to the
mains supply if they are watertight.
10. Carefully slide UV-C lamp (1) into the quartz glass tube (2).
11. Fit on the red end cap (9B) and screw on the cap nut (11) tightly. Pay attention to the O-ring (8) on the
pressure piece (6B).
12. Fit the lamp socket (3) onto the UV-C lamp (1). The starter socket (4) with the starter (5) is behind the
lamp socket (3).
13. Fit on the red end cap (9A) and screw on the cap nut (11) tightly. Pay attention to the O-ring (8) on the
pressure piece (6A).
Taking care of your UV-C unit in winter
