not permitany reliableconclusionabout the tire
pressure. On vehicles equipped with the elec-
tronictire pressure monitor, the tire pressure
can be checked in the on-board computer.
The tire temperature and pressure increase
when the vehicleisinmotion. Thisisdependent
on the driving speed and the load.
Therefore, youshouldonlycorrect tire pres-
sures when the tiresare cold.
The tiresare cold:
R
if the vehiclehas been parked withoutdirect
sunlight on the tiresfor at leastthreehours
and
R
if the vehiclehas not been driven further than
1mile(1.6 km)
The tire temperature changes depending on the
outsidetemperature,the vehiclespeed and the
tire load.Ifthe tire temperature changes by
18 ‡(10 †), the tire pressure changes by
approximately10kPa (0.1 bar/1.5 psi). Take
thisinto account when checking the pressure of
warm tires. Onlycorrect the tire pressure if it is
too lowfor the current operating conditions. If
youcheck the tire pressure when the tiresare
warm, the resulting value will be higherthanif
the tireswerecold. Thisisnormal. Do not
reduce the tire pressure to the value specified
for coldtires. The tire pressure wouldotherwise
be too low.
Observe the recommendedtire pressures for
coldtires:
R
on the Tire and Loading Informationplacard
on the B-pillar on the driver's side
R
in the tire pressure table in the fuelfillerflap

Underinflated or overinflated tires
Underinflated tires
G
WARNING
Tires with pressure thatistoo lowcan over-
heatand burst as aconsequence.Inaddition,
they also suffer from excessive and/or irreg-
ular wear, which can severely impairthe brak-
ing propertiesand the driving characteristics.
There is ariskofanaccident.
Avoidtire pressures thatare too lowinall the
tires, including the spare wheel.
Underinflated tiresmay:
R
overheat, leading to tire defects
R
adverselyaffect handling
R
wear excessivelyand/or unevenly
R
have an adverseeffect on fuelconsumption
Overinflated tires
G
WARNING
Tires with excessivelyhighpressure can burst
because they are damaged more easily by
roaddebris, potholes etc. In addition, they
also suffer from irregularwear, which can
severely impairthe braking propertiesand the
driving characteristics. There is ariskofan
accident.
Avoidtire pressures thatare too high in allthe
tires, including the spare wheel.
Overinflated tiresmay:
R
increasethe braking distance
R
adverselyaffect handling
R
wear excessivelyand/or unevenly
R
have an adverseeffect on ridecomfort
R
be more likelytobecome damaged
Maximum tire pressures
:
Example:maximumpermissibletire pres-
sure
Never exceed the maximumpermissibletire
inflation pressure. Alwaysobserve the recom-
mended tire pressure for your vehiclewhen
adjusting the tire pressure (
