12.2 Cleaning the Easy Cappuccino
Milk deposits in the Easy Cappuccino (15) can
be easily removed. Unscrew the lower base
of the Easy Cappuccino. Remove the whisk
wheel by pressing it from the top out of the
steam pipe, Fig. Q. Traces of milk on the steam
pipe and whisk wheel can now be rinsed,
wiped off or removed in the dishwasher. Then
put back the whisk wheel into the steam pipe
from below until it snaps into place. Secure
both to the Easy Cappuccino.
Make sure the seal of the Easy Cappuccino
always sits firmly.
12.3 Cleaning the grinder
The grinder does not usually need to be
cleaned. Now and again, larger residues can
be removed with a small brush. Never clean
the grinder with water.
12.4 Integrated cleaning programme
This programme is for the complete removal
of residues and traces of grease which cannot
be removed by hand. We recommend monthly
cleaning or after some 200 brewed cups – at
the latest when the appliance requests you to
do so. The cleaning display lights up.
Tip: Use the specially developed Melitta
®
cleaning tabs for fully automatic coffeemakers
and single cup machines, as these are adapted
exactly to your Melitta
®
CAFFEO
®
.
½
Turn the function controller (25) to
“Cleaning”.
½
Fill the water reservoir (8) to capacity
(1.5 litres).
½
Fig. R Set the coffee bean container (2)
to ground coffee operation and insert the
cleaning tab into the ground coffee chute.
After inserting, confirm by pressing the start
key (27).
½
Empty the coffee grounds container and
replace. Then pull out the container (12) to
the middle of the drip tray, where it can
collect the cleaning water.
½
Now press the start key (27).
The cleaning programme can no longer be
interrupted. There are 6 rinsing cycles with
breaks. The programme lasts some 8 minutes.
The cleaning display (18) flashes during the
whole operation.
When the programme is over, the control
display “Coffee grounds container” will
illuminate. Empty the coffee grounds container
and replace. Confirm the end of the cleaning
programme by pressing the start key (27).
After putting into serving operation, the
coffeemaker is ready for use again.
12.5 Cleaning the brewing unit
We recommend cleaning the brewing unit
from time to time. This is how to proceed:
½
Shut down the appliance.
½
Fig. S Open the service door (7).
½
Fig. T Press the red safety lever on the right
upwards until it stops.
½
Fig. U Keep the red safety knob at top left
pressed with your left hand. At the same
time, use your right hand to press down
the interlocking key at the front of the
brewing unit. Pull the brewing unit out to
the front, Fig. V.
½
Fig. W Turn the red handle at the side of
the brewing unit to open it.
½
Now you can thoroughly clean the brewing
unit under running water.
½
After cleaning, turn back the red handle.
½
Fig. T Put the brewing unit back into the
coffeemaker. After this, press down the
safety lever and close the service door.
The appliance can be switched on again.
Depending on use and water hardness, the
appliance needs to be decalcified every 4-6
weeks. When the decalcifying display (19)
lights up, this means that the appliance must
be decalcified. Coffee can still be made for a
number of brews. After that, no more coffee
can be supplied (to protect the appliance) and
it must be decalcified.
Caution: Do not use vinegar or other decal-
cifying agents not recommended by Melitta
®
.
Tip: Use the specially developed decalcifying
agents from Melitta
®
for automatic coffee-
makers and single cup machines, as these are
exactly adapted to your Melitta
®
CAFFEO
®
.
The automatic decalcifying programme takes
around 30 minutes and consists of two phases.
Proceed as follows:
Phase 1:
½
Turn the function controller (25) to
“Decalcifying” and confirm with Start.
½
The “water reservoir” symbol (22) lights up
and the display lights for brewing strength
and water quantity are extinguished.
Dissolve the decalcifying agent in 0.5
litres
of water and pour the solution into the
water reservoir (8), Fig. X.
Please follow the instructions for use of
your decalcifying agent.
½
Press the start key (27).
½
The “Coffee grounds container” symbol (21)
lights up. Empty the coffee grounds
container and replace. Then pull out the
container (12) to the middle of the drip tray
in order to collect the decalcifying solution.
Please place another receptacle under the
steam/boiling water nozzle (15).
½
Then press the start key (27).
½
When the “water reservoir” symbol flashes,
briefly open the steam/hot water valve (17).
Roughly the quantity of one cup of water
is pumped into the receptacle. Then shut
off the valve and confirm with Start (27).
½
The coffee outlet is then automatically de-
scaled.
The decalcifying display (19) flashes
during the whole decalcifying operation.
Various cleaning cycles with breaks are now
run. This lasts some 25 minutes.
When the “water reservoir” symbol lights up,
it is time for Phase 2 – a rinsing cycle. Phase
2 lasts about 5 minutes.
Phase 2:
½
The “water reservoir” symbol (22) lights up.
Rinse the water reservoir (8) and fill to
capacity with fresh water (1.5 litres). Then
re-fit the reservoir to the coffeemaker.
½
Press the start key (27).
½
The “Coffee grounds container” symbol (21)
lights up. Empty the coffee grounds
container (12) and receptacle and place both
under the coffee outlet (13) and steam/hot
water outlet (15) again.
½
Now press the start key (27).
½
When the “water reservoir” symbol (22)
flashes, briefly open the knob for steam/hot
water (17) and – as soon as the milk frother
has been rinsed – re-tighten it. Roughly the
quantity of one cup of water is pumped
into the receptacle. Confirm with Start (27).
½
The appliance is now rinsed thoroughly to
ensure complete removal of the decalcifying
solution. Decalcifying is over when no
further water is dispensed from the coffee
outlet and the “Coffee grounds container”
symbol lights up. Empty the coffee grounds
container and confirm when replaced with
Start (27).
The decalcifying symbol is extinguished.
We would advise not drinking the first cup of
coffee, in order to be absolutely sure that
nothing remains of the decalcifying solution
in the coffeemaker.
