Connecting the air hose
Insert the end of the hose (1) into the air hose
socket (12).
Check that the end of the air hose has been inserted
as far as possible into the appliance and is firmly in
place.
USING THE APPLIANCE
Preparing for a blood pressure reading
Sit still for 10 minutes before taking a reading.
Avoid smoking before taking a reading, and ensure
the room temperature is comfortable.
Wait 30-45 minutes if you have just drunk anything
containing caffeine, such as coffee, tea or cola.
Avoid sitting with your legs crossed, and place your
feet on the ground.
Do not take a blood pressure reading if you are
excited, stressed or tense.
Relax during the reading and do not talk.
Fitting the cuff on the arm
Thread the end of the cuff (2) through the metal
bracket (4) so the cuff (5) forms a tube. Make sure
the Velcro tabs face outwards. Turn the cuff so the
air hose (13) points towards the floor.
Slide the cuff onto the arm and position it on the
upper arm, approx. 1-2 cm above your elbow.
o The cuff should be at roughly the same height as
your heart.
Tighten the cuff by pulling
at the end until the cuff fits
tightly around the arm. At
the same time, turn the cuff
so the air hoses run along
the inside of the arm (see
illustration).
o The hose should be parallel to your lower arm
and point towards your hand.
o Do not overtighten the cuff – you should be able
to fit one finger between the cuff and your arm.
Fold the end of the cuff over the metal bracket, wrap
the end down around your arm and press it onto the
Velcro tab (3).
NB:
o The cuff should be taut but should not pinch.
o The air hose should run along the inside of your
arm.
o The lower edge of the cuff should be 1-2 cm
from your elbow joint.
o It is best to place the cuff directly against the
skin. Roll your sleeve up if wearing a long-
sleeved garment, but do not restrict your blood
circulation.
o If you want to take a number of readings, place
the cuff on the same arm each time. Your left
arm is the best to use. It is also important to
always measure at the same time of day, under
the same conditions and in the same position.
Wait for 10 minutes before taking another
reading.
Measuring the blood pressure
Sit on a chair and place your arm on the table with
your palm facing upwards.
o Stay completely still while taking the reading.
Press the POWER button (9). All symbols and
figures will appear on the display for a moment.
When the display shows ”0 mmHg”, it is ready for
use.
Use your
right hand to inflate the cuff using the
pump (7), until the pressure shown on the display is
approx. 30 mmHg higher than your normal systolic
pressure. For a person with normal blood pressure
of 120 mmHg, this will be approx. 150 mmHg.
o The appliance will then show the blood pressure
continuously while reading takes place.
o If an error occurs during the reading, and you
have to take another, release the air from the cuff
by pressing the valve (6).
When the reading is complete, the systolic pressure
(c), diastolic pressure (b) and pulse (a) will be
displayed.
o The reading in mmHg can be changed to kPa by
pressing the mmHg/kPa button (10).
o Readings can be saved in the memory by
pressing the MEMORY button (11). Up to 7
readings can be saved in the memory.
If you need to take several readings, wait 10 minutes
between each reading.
o Caution! A single reading will not give a sure
indication of your condition. You can only get an
idea of this after a number of readings.
Switch off the appliance by pressing the POWER
button when you have finished taking a reading.
o The appliance automatically switches off after 3
minutes of inaction.
PRIOR TO FIRST USE
Inserting the batteries
Open the battery cover on the back of the
appliance.
Insert four batteries, size “AA”. Make sure the
batteries are fitted with the correct polarity (see the
markings at the bottom of the battery compartment).
Replace the cover.
Change the batteries when the battery symbol is
shown in the display (8).
