17.4. Overview
The greatest innovation with Windows
®
8 is the Start screen.
This key element replaces the Start menu in Windows
®
8.
Here you can run all the main programs and services.
As with previous versions, operation is by inputting commands using the mouse or
keyboard.
The Start screen can be opened at any time using the
(Win) key. This key
also allows you to switch back and forth between the Start screen and an active
application. To switch to an application other than the last one opened, press the
Win+Tab keyboard shortcut.
A central feature of the Start screen are the tiles which each represent an
application or function. They are shown in blocks and you can define the number of
blocks and their columns yourself.
Drag & drop the tiles to the desired position using the mouse.
17.4.1. Logging in to Windows
To be able to work with Windows

8, you must set up a Windows
®
8 user account.
Move the mouse pointer into the top right or bottom corner of the display,
move the mouse down and click Settings.
Next, select Change PC settings.
Open the User category.
Select Add a user, to set up additional user accounts.
Windows
®
8 allows you to log in using 3 different login procedures. Windows
®
8
gives you the choice of standard login by password, a PIN or an image code. To set
up a PIN or image code, you must first have set up a password for Windows
®
8.

Move the mouse pointer into the top right or bottom corner of the display and
click Settings.
Next, click Change PC settings.
Select the User item.
Click Change your Password and follow the instructions.

Move the mouse pointer into the top right or bottom corner of the display and
click Settings.
Next, click Change PC settings.
Select the User item.
Click Create a PIN and follow the instructions.
