TMC (Traffic Message Channel)
Traffic Message Channel (TMC) is een digitale radio-datadienst, die op een vergelijkbare
manier als RDS werkt en gebruikt wordt voor het verzenden van informatie over
verkeersstoringen aan geschikte ontvangers.
De verkeersinformatie wordt voortdurend via FM verzonden.
Omdat dit signaal constant wordt uitgezonden is de gebruiker minder afhankelijk van de
verkeersinformatie, die enkel om het halve uur wordt uitgezonden. Bijkomend kan
belangrijke informatie, b.v. over spookrijders, meteen worden doorgegeven.
De uitzending is gepland voor heel Europa en wordt in veel landen reeds door
radiozenders aangeboden. De nauwkeurigheid van de TMC-berichten (Traffic Message
Channel) kan van land tot land sterk variëren.
Niet elke navigatiesoftware kan de informatie in de TMC-meldingen verwerken. U kunt
beter eerst informeren of uw systeem TMC ondersteunt, voordat u eventueel een TMC-
ontvanger aankoopt.
