MP3 is een door het Fraunhofer-instituut ontwikkelde methode resp. formaat

voor de compressie van audiogegevens. In het MP3-formaat gecomprimeerde

stukken muziek hebben slechts nog een fractie van hun oorspronkelijke

grootte, waardoor er op bijv. cd-r's/ cd-rw's veel meer muziek past dan op in

de handel gebruikelijke audio-cd's, waarop audiogegevens in het CDA-

formaat worden opgeslagen.

WMA

WMA (Engels voor "Windows® Media Audio") is een door Microsoft®

ontwikkeld bestandsformaat voor audiogegevens.

JPEG

JPEG (Engels voor "Joint Photographics Expert Group") is de naam van een

door de gelijknamige organisatie ontwikkelde, veelgebruikt grafisch formaat

waarbij de beeldgegevens van de kleur- en grijsschalen gecomprimeerd

worden.

MPEG

MPEG ("Moving Picture Experts Group") is een video-compressie-formaat.

Wat zijn mappen?

In tegenstelling tot audio-cd's kunnen de nummers op een cd-r/cd-rw met

MP3-, WMA- of JPEG-bestanden in mappen zijn opgeslagen, bijvoorbeeld om

titels van diverse genres te ordenen.
