Informationen zum Vorbild
Zur Modernisierung des schnellen Personenverkehrs
benötigten die Niederländischen Staatsbahnen Mitte der
1970er-Jahre neues Material. In dem dicht besiedelten Land
sind flexibel einsetzbare Züge notwendig, um den Verkehr in
den Ballungszentren zu bewältigen. Somit wurden ab 1977-
1994 insgesamt 144 Triebwagen, die Familie der Koploper,
in Dienst gestellt, die an Haltepunkten schnell und leicht zu
trennen und zu kuppeln sind. Wichtig erschien auch, es den
Fahrgästen zu ermöglichen, während der Fahrt von einer
Einheit in die andere zu wechseln. Somit wurde kurzerhand
der Führerstand um eine Etage nach oben verlegt und die
Triebwagen wurden mit Übergängen an den Stirnseiten
versehen. Diese Einrichtung gibt den Koplopern eine bullige,
außergewöhnliche Erscheinung. Gebaut wurden die
Koploper von den Firmen Talbot, CEM Oerlikon und Holec
und wurden von den Niederländischen Staatsbahnen als
Serie 4000 und 4200 eingereiht, die sich u.a. durch
unterschiedliche Motorisierungen unterscheiden. Vor
kurzem wurden die Koploper einer Modernisierungswelle
unterzogen, in der sie mit Klimaanlagen und behindertenge-
rechten Einrichtungen versehen wurden. Die Triebwagen,
die bis 160 km/h erreichen können, sind in den klassischen
Farbschemata der NS unterwegs, werden aber auch gerne
als Werbeflächen genutzt, wie zum Beispiel aktuell für die
Olympischen Spiele 2008 in Peking. Die Koploper sind mit
Sicherheit eine erfolgreiche Entwicklung der Schienenfahr-
zeugtechnologie und mit ihrem ungewöhnlichen Äußeren
prägen sie deutlich den Personenverkehr in den Niederlan-
den.
Information about the Prototype
In the mid-Seventies, the Dutch State Railways needed new
material to modernize its express passenger service. Trains
with flexible utilization are required in this densely populated
country in order to manage service into the urban areas. From
1977 to 1994, a total of 144 powered rail cars, the “Koploper“
family, were placed into service. These powered rail cars
could be quickly and easily separated and coupled at stops.
It also became important that passengers be able to change
from one unit to the other, when the train was in operation. The
engineer‘s cabs were thus quickly raised up one level and these
powered rail cars were equipped with crossovers at the ends.
This feature gives the “Koplopers“ a brawny, unusual look. The
“Koplopers“ were built by the firm s Talbot, CEM Oerlikon, and
Holec, and were designated by the Dutch State Railways as the
classes 4000 and 4200, which differed from one another in their
motors. A short while ago the “Koplopers“ underwent modern-
ization and were equipped with air conditioning and facilities
for handicapped people. These powered rail cars can reach
160 km/h / 100 mph and are run in the classic NS paint scheme,
but they have also been used as advertising surfaces such as is
currently being done for the Olympic Games in 2008 in Beijing.
The “Koplopers“ are certainly a successful development in rail
vehicle technology and with their unusual looks they are clearly
leaving their stamp on passenger service in the Netherlands.
