BR 74
En 1902 la première loco-tender à vapeur surchauffée
du type T 12 a été construite et livrée à la direction
royale des chemins de fer de Berlin. Ces machines
connurent un grand succès. Des centaines furent
livrées jusqu’a l’électrification des chemins de fer
urbains et de la ceinture au cours des années 1920.
Elles assuraient la traction des «Stadtbahnen» ainsi que
celle des trains de banlieue. Près de 1000 machines
de ce type ont été fabriquées. Devenues superflues
à Berlin par suite de l’électrification du réseau, elles
furent réparties sur d’autres régions et assuré le
trafic de trains omnibus courts ainsi des manœvres
de triage. Plusieurs de ces locomotives ont été
affectées à la Deutsche Bundesbahn et les dernières
furent mises á la ferraille en 1967.
D’un poids de 70 t, ces machines développaient une
puissance de 870 CV, puissance qui leur permettait
d’atteindre la vitesse de 80 km/h tant en marche
avant qu’en marche arrière.

In 1902 werd de eerste tenderlocomotief met over-
verhitte stoom van het type T 12 door de koninklijke
spoorwegdirectie Berlijn in dienst gesteld. Ze voldeed
zo goed, dat honderden van deze machines tot de
elektificatie van de Berlijnse stad- en ringspoorweg
in de jaren twinting hun diensten vervulden in het
stads- en voorstadsvervoe. In de loop van de jaren
zijn de bijna 1000 exemplaren van deze betrouwbare
machines gebouwd. Toen ze in Berlsijn overbodig
werden, kwamen ze, inmiddels ondergebracht in de
BR 74, bij diverse spoorwegdirecties voor korte per-
sonentreinen en in de rangeerdienst in gebruik. Vele
van deze locomotieven werden door de Deutsche
Bundesbahn nog tot 1967 in heel Duitsland ingezet.
Met haar dienstgewicht van 70 ton en een vermogen
van 870 pk kon de T 12 een maximum snelheid in
beide richtingen halen.
