Intended use
The tool is intended for impact screw driving in wood and
for impact drilling in brick, concrete and stone as well as
for drilling and screw driving without impact in wood,
metal, ceramic and plastic.

you use this power tool unsafely or incorrectly,
you can suffer serious personal injury.
1. Hold power tools by insulated gripping surfaces
when performing an operation where the cutting
tool may contact hidden wiring or its own cord.
Contact with a “live” wire will make exposed metal
parts of the tool “live” and shock the operator.
2. Always be sure you have a firm footing.
Be sure no one is below when using the tool in
high locations.

3. Hold the tool firmly.

only when hand-held.
6. Do not touch the bit or the workpiece immedi-
ately after operation; they may be extremely hot
and could burn your skin.

to noise can cause hearing loss.

BATTERY CARTRIDGE

1. Before using battery cartridge, read all instruc-
tions and cautionary markings on (1) battery
charger, (2) battery, and (3) product using bat-
tery.
2. Do not disassemble battery cartridge.
3. If operating time has become excessively
shorter, stop operating immediately. It may
result in a risk of overheating, possible burns
and even an explosion.
4. If electrolyte gets into your eyes, rinse them out
with clear water and seek medical attention right
away. It may result in loss of your eyesight.
5. Do not short the battery cartridge:
(1) Do not touch the terminals with any conduc-
tive material.
(2) Avoid storing battery cartridge in a container
with other metal objects such as nails, coins,
etc.
(3) Do not expose battery cartridge to water or
rain.
A battery short can cause a large current flow,
overheating, possible burns and even a break-
down.
6. Do not store the tool and battery cartridge in
locations where the temperature may reach or
exceed 50°C (122°F).
7. Do not incinerate the battery cartridge even if it
is severely damaged or is completely worn out.
The battery cartridge can explode in a fire.
8. Be careful not to drop or strike battery.

Tips for maintaining maximum battery life
1. Charge the battery cartridge before completely
discharged.
Always stop tool operation and charge the bat-
tery cartridge when you notice less tool power.
2. Never recharge a fully charged battery cartridge.
Overcharging shortens the battery service life.
3. Charge the battery cartridge with room tempera-
ture at 10°C 40°C (50°F 104°F). Let a hot bat-
tery cartridge cool down before charging it.
FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
CAUTION:
Always be sure that the tool is switched off and the bat-
tery cartridge is removed before adjusting or checking
function on the tool.
Installing or removing battery cartridge (Fig. 1)
Always switch off the tool before insertion or removal of
the battery cartridge.
• To remove the battery cartridge, withdraw it from the
tool while sliding the button on the front of the cartridge.
To insert the battery cartridge, align the tongue on the
battery cartridge with the groove in the housing and slip
it into place. Always insert it all the way until it locks in
place with a little click. If you can see the red part on
the upper side of the button, it is not locked completely.
Insert it fully until the red part cannot be seen. If not, it
may accidentally fall out of the tool, causing injury to
you or someone around you.
Do not use force when inserting the battery cartridge. If
the cartridge does not slide in easily, it is not being
inserted correctly.
Switch action (Fig. 2)
CAUTION:
Before inserting the battery cartridge into the tool,
always check to see that the switch trigger actuates
properly and returns to the “OFF” position when
released.
To start the tool, simply pull the switch trigger. Tool speed
is increased by increasing pressure on the switch trigger.
Release the switch trigger to stop.
Lighting up the front lamp (Fig. 3)
CAUTION:
Do not look in the light or see the source of light
directly.
Pull the switch trigger to light up the lamp. The lamp
keeps on lighting while the switch trigger is being pulled.
The light automatically goes out 10 15 seconds after
the switch trigger is released.
NOTE:
Use a dry cloth to wipe the dirt off the lens of lamp. Be
careful not to scratch the lens of lamp, or it may lower
the illumination.
Reversing switch action (Fig. 4)
This tool has a reversing switch to change the direction of
rotation. Depress the reversing switch lever from the A
side for clockwise rotation or from the B side for counter-
clockwise rotation.
When the reversing switch lever is in the neutral position,
the switch trigger cannot be pulled.
CAUTION:
Always check the direction of rotation before operation.
Use the reversing switch only after the tool comes to a
complete stop. Changing the direction of rotation
before the tool stops may damage the tool.
When not operating the tool, always set the reversing
switch lever to the neutral position.

Selecting the action mode
This tool employs an action mode changing lever. Select
one of the four modes suitable for your work needs by
using this lever.
For rotation with impact, turn the lever so that the arrow
on the lever points toward the mark on the tool body.
(Fig. 5)
For rotation with hammering, turn the lever so that the
arrow points toward the mark on the tool body.
(Fig. 6)
For rotation with clutch, turn the lever so that the arrow
points toward the mark on the tool body. (Fig. 7)
For rotation only, turn the lever so that the arrow on the
lever points toward the mark or the mark on the
tool body. (Fig. 8)
Sliding to the mark is for high rotation and the
mark is for low rotation. (Fig. 9)
Before operation, always make sure that the lever is cor-
rectly set to your desired mode mark and use the tool at
an appropriate speed for your work.
CAUTION:
• When using the action mode change lever, use only
when the tool stops. But when the lever does not easily
move, pull the switch trigger slightly to rotate the spin-
dle and then move the lever.
Always set the lever correctly to your desired mode
mark. If you operate the tool with the lever positioned
halfway between the mode marks, the tool may be
damaged.
Adjusting the fastening torque (Only for
screwdriving operation mode
) (Fig. 10)
The fastening torque can be adjusted in 16 steps by turn-
ing the adjusting ring so that its graduations are aligned
with the pointer on the tool body. The fastening torque is
minimum when the number 1 is aligned with the pointer,
and maximum when the number 16 is aligned with the
pointer.
The clutch will slip at various torque levels when set at
the number 1 to 16.
Before actual operation, drive a trial screw into your
material or a piece of duplicate material to determine
which torque level is required for a particular application.
NOTE:
In modes other than screwdriving mode, the adjusting
ring can be placed at any position because it does not
work.
ASSEMBLY
CAUTION:
Always be sure that the tool is switched off and the bat-
tery cartridge is removed before carrying out any work
on the tool.
Installing or removing driver bit or socket bit
Use only the driver bit or socket bit shown in the figure.
Do not use any other driver bit or socket bit. (Fig. 11)
For European and North & South American coun-
tries, Australia and New Zealand
For other countries
1. To install the bit, pull the sleeve in the direction of the
arrow and insert the bit into the sleeve as far as it will
go. Then release the sleeve to secure the bit.
(Fig. 12)
2. To install the bit, pull the sleeve in the direction of the
arrow and insert the bit-piece and bit into the sleeve
as far as it will go. The bit-piece should be inserted
into the sleeve with its pointed end facing in. Then
release the sleeve to secure the bit. (Fig. 13)
To remove the bit, pull the sleeve in the direction of the
arrow and pull the bit out firmly.
NOTE:
If the bit is not inserted deep enough into the sleeve,
the sleeve will not return to its original position and the
bit will not be secured. In this case, try re-inserting the
bit according to the instructions above.
Hook (Accessory) (Fig. 14)
CAUTION:
When installing the hook, tighten the screw firmly. Fail-
ure to do so may cause the breakage of the tool or per-
sonal injury.
The hook is convenient for temporarily hanging the tool.
This can be installed on either side of the tool.
To install the hook, insert it into a groove in the tool hous-
ing on either side and then secure it with a screw. To
remove, loosen the screw and then take it out.
OPERATION
CAUTION:
Always insert the battery cartridge all the way until it
locks in place. If you can see the red part on the upper
side of the button, it is not locked completely. Insert it
fully until the red part cannot be seen. If not, it may
accidentally fall out of the tool, causing injury to you or
someone around you.
Impact driver operation
When driving wood screws or bolts, set the action mode
changing lever to the mark. The adjusting ring can be
placed at any position.
Screwdriving (Fig. 15)
Hold the tool firmly and place the point of the driver bit in
the screw head. Apply forward pressure to the tool to the
extent that the bit will not slip off the screw and turn the
tool on to start operation.
A = 12 mm
B = 9 mm
Use only these type of bit. Follow the
procedure (1).
(Note)
Bit-piece is not necessary.
A = 17 mm
B = 14 mm
To install these types of bits, follow the
procedure (1).

Tightening bolts (Fig. 16 & 17)
The proper fastening torque may differ depending upon
the kind or size of the screw/bolt, the material of the
workpiece to be fastened, etc. The relation between fas-
tening torque and fastening time is shown in the figures.
NOTE:
Use the proper bit for the head of the screw/bolt that
you wish to use.
• When fastening screw M8 or smaller, carefully adjust
pressure on the switch trigger so that the screw is not
damaged.
Hold the tool pointed straight at the screw.
If you tighten the screw for a time longer than shown in
the figures, the screw or the point of the driver bit may
be overstressed, stripped, damaged, etc. Before start-
ing your job, always perform a test operation to deter-
mine the proper fastening time for your screw.
CAUTION:
If the tool is operated continuously until the battery car-
tridge has discharged, allow the tool to rest for 15 min-
utes before proceeding with a fresh battery.
The fastening torque is affected by a wide variety of fac-
tors including the following. After fastening, always check
the torque with a torque wrench.
1. When the battery cartridge is discharged almost
completely, voltage will drop and the fastening
torque will be reduced.
2. Driver bit or socket bit
Failure to use the correct size driver bit or socket bit
will cause a reduction in the fastening torque.
3. Bolt
Even though the torque coefficient and the class of
bolt are the same, the proper fastening torque will
differ according to the diameter of bolt.
Even though the diameters of bolts are the same,
the proper fastening torque will differ according to
the torque coefficient, the class of bolt and the bolt
length.
4. The manner of holding the tool or the material of
driving position to be fastened will affect the torque.
5. Operating the tool at low speed will cause a reduc-
tion in the fastening torque.
Hammer drilling operation
CAUTION:
There is tremendous and sudden twisting force exerted
on the tool/bit at the time of hole breakthrough, when
the hole becomes clogged with chips and particles, or
when striking reinforcing rods embedded in the con-
crete.
To drill in the concrete or tiles, first, turn the action mode
changing lever so that the arrow on the lever points to the
mark on the tool body. The adjusting ring can be
aligned in any torque levels for this operation.
Be sure to use a tungsten-carbide tipped bit.
Position the bit at the desired location for the hole, then
pull the trigger.
Do not force the tool. Light pressure gives best results.
Keep the tool in position and prevent it from slipping away
from the hole.
Do not apply more pressure when the hole becomes
clogged with chips or particles. Instead, run the tool at an
idle, then remove the bit partially from the hole. By
repeating this several times, the hole will be cleaned out
and normal drilling may be resumed.
CAUTION:
If the tool is operated continuously until the battery car-
tridge has discharged, allow the tool to rest for 15 min-
utes before proceeding with a fresh battery.
Screwdriving operation (Fig. 18)
CAUTION:
Adjust the adjusting ring to the proper torque level for
your work.
When driving small wood screws or machine screws, set
the action mode changing lever to the mark. Adjust
the adjusting ring to the proper torque level for your work.
Place the point of the driver bit in the screw head and
apply pressure to the tool. Start the tool slowly and then
increase the speed gradually. Release the switch trigger
as soon as the clutch cuts in.
CAUTION:
Make sure that the driver bit is inserted straight in the
screw head, or the screw and/or bit may be damaged.
If the tool is operated continuously until the battery car-
tridge has discharged, allow the tool to rest for 15 min-
utes before proceeding with a fresh battery.
NOTE:
When driving wood screws, predrill pilot holes to make
driving easier and to prevent splitting of the workpiece.
See the chart.
Drilling operation
First, set the action mode changing lever so that the
pointer points to the mark or the mark. The
mark is for low speed rotation and the mark is for
high. The adjusting ring can be aligned in any torque lev-
els for this operation. Then proceed as follows.
Before operation, always make sure that the lever is cor-
rectly set to your desired mode mark and use the tool at
an appropriate speed for your work.
Then proceed as follows.
Drilling in wood
When drilling in wood, the best results are obtained with
wood drills equipped with a guide screw. The guide
screw makes drilling easier by pulling the bit into the
workpiece.

Drilling in metal
To prevent the bit from slipping when starting a hole,
make an indentation with a center-punch and hammer at
the point to be drilled. Place the point of the bit in the
indentation and start drilling. Use a cutting lubricant
when drilling metals. The exceptions are iron and brass
which should be drilled dry.
CAUTION:
Pressing excessively on the tool will not speed up the
drilling. In fact, this excessive pressure will only serve
to damage the tip of your bit, decrease the tool perfor-
mance and shorten the service life of the tool.
There is a tremendous force exerted on the tool/bit at
the time of hole break through. Hold the tool firmly and
exert care when the bit begins to break through the
workpiece.
A stuck bit can be removed simply by setting the
reversing switch to reverse rotation in order to back out.
However, the tool may back out abruptly if you do not
hold it firmly.
• Always secure small workpieces in a vise or similar
hold-down device.
If the tool is operated continuously until the battery car-
tridge has discharged, allow the tool to rest for 15 min-
utes before proceeding with a fresh battery.
MAINTENANCE
CAUTION:
Always be sure that the tool is switched off and the bat-
tery cartridge is removed before attempting to perform
inspection or maintenance.
Replacing carbon brushes
Replace when they wear down to the limit mark. Keep
the carbon brushes clean and free to slip in the holders.
Both carbon brushes should be replaced at the same
time. Use only identical carbon brushes. (Fig. 19)
Use a screwdriver to remove two screws then remove the
rear cover. (Fig. 20)
Raise the arm part of the spring and then place it in the
recessed part of the housing with a slotted bit screw-
driver of slender shaft or the like. (Fig. 21)
Use pliers to remove the carbon brush cap of the carbon
brushes. Take out the worn carbon brushes, insert the
new ones and replace the carbon brush cap in reverse.

Make sure that the carbon brush cap have fit into the
holes in brush holders securely. (Fig. 23)
Reinstall the rear cover and tighten two screws securely.
After replacing brushes, insert the battery cartridge into
the tool and break in brushes by running tool with no load
for about 1 minute. Then check the tool while running and
electric brake operation when releasing the switch trig-
ger. If electric brake is not working well, ask your local
Makita service center for repair.
To maintain product SAFETY and RELIABILITY, repairs,
any other maintenance or adjustment should be per-
formed by Makita Authorized Service Centers, always
using Makita replacement parts.

Χρησιµοποιείστε ένα κατσαβίδι για να αφαιρέσετε
δύο βίδες και µετά αφαιρέστε το πίσω κάλυµµα.

Σηκώστε το τµήµα βραχίονα του ελατηρίου και µετά
τοποθετήστε το στο κοίλο τµήµα του περιβλήµατος
µε ένα κατσαβίδι ευθείας αιχµής µε λεπτ άξονα ή
κάτι παρµοιο. (Εικ. 21)
Χρησιµοποιήστε τανάλια για να αφαιρέσετε το
καπάκι των ψηκτρών άνθρακα. Βγάλτε τις
φθαρµένες ψήκτρες άνθρακα, τοποθετήστε τις
καινούργιες και τοποθετήστε ξανά το καπάκι των
ψηκτρών άνθρακα. (Εικ. 22)
Βεβαιωθείτε τι το καπάκι ψηκτρών άνθρακα
εφαρµζει στις οπές στις θήκες ψηκτρών άνθρακα
µε ασφάλεια. (Εικ. 23)
Επανατοποθετήστε το οπίσθιο κάλυµµα και σφίγχτε
τις δύο βίδες µε ασφάλεια.
Αφού αντικαταστείσετε τις ψήκτρες, βάλτε την
κασέτα µπαταρίας µέσα στο εργαλείο και στρώστε
τις ψήκτρες λειτουργώντας το εργαλείο χωρίς
φορτίο για ένα περίπου λεπτ. Μετά ελέγξτε το
εργαλείο ενώ λειτουργεί και την λειτουργία του
ηλεκτρικού φρένου ταν ελευθερώνετε την
σκανδάλη διακπτη. Εάν το ηλεκτρικ φρένο δεν
εργάζεται καλά, αποτανθείτε στο τοπικ κέντρο
εξυπηρέτησης Μάκιτα για επισκευή.
Για την διατήρηση της ΑΣΦΑΛΕΙΑΣ και ΑΞΙΟΠΙΣΤΙΑΣ
του προιντος, επισκευές, οποιαδήποτε άλλη
συντήρηση ή ρύθµιση πρέπει να εκτελούνται απ τα
Εξουσιοδοτηµένα Κέντρα Εξυπηρέτησης της
Μάκιτα, µε χρήση πάντοτε ανταλλακτικών Μάκιτα.
