At the beginning of the charging process, the current acquires a high value which
slowly and gradually decreases until it becomes very low as the battery is being
charged.
When the battery is under charge, it may be noticed that the liquid held
inside it begins to boil.
It is better not to prolong the charge excessively, so as not to overheat the
elements and avoid oxidations of the plates. This will help to maintain the battery
in good condition.
6.0 ADJUSTMENT OF THE CHARGING CURRENT
Model 77001-77002-77004-77006:
With the proper multi-position regulator (3) it is possible to increase or decrease
the charging current and, consequently, the speed at which the battery is charged.
In order to prolong the battery life span, it is advisable to charge it slowly, with a
charging current indicated by the instrument, comprises between 1/10 and 1/5 of
the capacity in Ah of the accumulator. Start the charge with the adjusting
commutator on position "MIN".
The ampmeter shows the current required at that moment by the battery. When
the index of the ampmeter is nearing zero, increase by turning the adjusting
commutator to “BOOST”. Proceed in this way for the next positions (when they are
present) until the charge is complete.
When the battery is charged, it is important to stop the machine as soon as
possible, because otherwise the battery charger will keep on charging and
the battery may be damaged.
Model 77007 with starter:
On position “1” the machine charges a minimum current and on position 3 (without
timer) a maximum current. On these positions the machine will keep on
charging and has to be stopped as soon as the battery is charged.
Or use position 4 - 6 and timer knob. On position 4 it charges a minimum current,
when using position 6 a maximum current in combination with the timer knob
(when using the timer knob the machine will stop after the adjusted time).
On position “start” the vehicle can be started (see also point 9.1).
7.0 THERMAL PROTECTION
All the Load UP model battery chargers are equipped with an amperometric
protection against overloads (battery anomaly or incorrect connection) short
circuit (direct contact of the charging pliers) and polarity inversion.
Models Load UP 77001-77002-77004-77006 are preset for the charging of 12
& 24 V batteries only, they only have two charging adjustments (MIN-BOOST)
