8.3.2 Defrosting the freezer compartment with
NoFrost*
Defrosting is performed automatically by the NoFrost
system. The moisture condenses on the evaporator and is
periodically defrosted and evaporated.
The appliance does not have to be defrosted.
8.3.3 Defrosting the freezer compartment
manually*
A layer of frost or ice forms after longer periods of opera‐
tion.
The following factors may accelerate frost or ice formation:
- The appliance is opened frequently.
- Hot food is placed in the appliance.
One day before defrosting:
uActivate SuperFrost (see 6.3 Functions) .
w“Cold storage accumulators” are applied to the frozen
produce.
uSwitch off the appliance .
uDisconnect the power plug or fuse.
uPlace cold storage accumulators on top of the frozen
produce.
uWrap the frozen food in newspaper or blankets and store
in a cold place.
uPut a pot with hot (but not boiling)
water on a middle shelf of the
compartment.
wThis speeds up defrosting.
uLeave the appliance door open during the defrosting
process.
uRemove pieces of ice that come loose.
uMake sure that the defrosted water does not run into the
surrounding furnishings.
uIf necessary, soak up the water with a sponge or a cloth
several times.
uClean the appliance (see 8.4 Cleaning the appliance) .
8.4 Cleaning the appliance
8.4.1 Preparation
WARNING
Danger of electric shock.
uUnplug refrigerator or disconnect power.
WARNING
Danger of fire
uDo not damage the refrigerant circuit.
uEmpty appliance.
uPull out the power plug.

uActivate CleaningMode. (see CleaningMode*) *
8.4.2 Cleaning the interior
NOTICE
Improper cleaning!
Damage to the appliance.
uOnly use soft cleaning cloths and ph-neutral all-purpose
cleaners.
uDo not use steel wool or sponges that scour or scratch.
uDo not use caustic or abrasive cleaning materials or
those containing sand, chloride, or acids.
uPlastic surfaces: clean by hand with a soft clean cloth,
lukewarm water and a little detergent.
uMetal surfaces: clean by hand with a soft clean cloth,
lukewarm water and a little detergent.
uDrain hole: remove any deposits with a thin item such as
a cotton bud.
8.4.3 Cleaning the equipment
NOTICE
Improper cleaning!
Damage to the appliance.
uOnly use soft cleaning cloths and ph-neutral all-purpose
cleaners.
uDo not use steel wool or sponges that scour or scratch.
uDo not use caustic or abrasive cleaning materials or
those containing sand, chloride, or acids.
Clean with a soft, clean cloth, lukewarm water and a little
washing up liquid:
- VarioSafe*
- Fruit & Vegetable-Safe cover
- Drawer
Please note: Do not remove the magnet on the drawer.
The magnet ensures that the IceMaker functions.*
- Divider in the IceMaker drawer*
- Variable bottle shelf
- FlexSystem
- Freezer tray*
Clean with a damp cloth:
- Retracting rails
Please note: the grease in the tracks is there for lubrica‐
tion purposes and must not be removed!
Clean in the dishwasher up to 60 °C:
- Door racks
- VarioBox
- Bottle rack
- Shelf
- Split shelf
- Holder for the split shelf
- HydroBreeze water tank and water tank lid*
- Drip tray*
- Egg rack
- Butter dish
- Ice cube tray
- Ice cube scoop*
uDisassemble the equipment: see the relevant section.
uClean the equipment.
8.4.4 Cleaning the HydroBreeze*
We recommend cleaning in the following situations:
qInitial commissioning
qHydroBreeze was off for longer than 48 hours.
qRefill the water tank.
Make sure that the following requirements are fulfilled
qHydroBreeze is off (see HydroBreeze*) .
qWater tank was removed and cleaned in the dishwasher.
