5 Tension artérielle
5.1 Q
u’est-ce que la tension artérielle?
La tension artérielle est la tension exercée sur les parois artérielles lorsque le
sang passe dans les artères. La tension mesurée lorsque le cœur se contracte
et envoie du sang hors du cœur est dite systolique (plus élevée). La tension
mesurée lorsque le cœur se dilate avec le sang revenant dans le cœur est
appelée tension diastolique (plus faible).
5.2 Pourquoi mesurer votre tension artérielle?
Parmi les différents problèmes de santé touchant les gens à l’heure actuelle,
les problèmes associés à une hypertension sont de loin les plus fréquents. La
corrélation entre l’hypertension, les maladies cardiovasculaires et une mortali
élevée exige de mesurer la tension artérielle en vue d’identifier les personnes
à risque.
5.3 Norme de tension artérielle
L’Organisation Mondiale de la Santé (OMS) et le National High Blood Pressure
Education Program ont développé une norme de tension artérielle, déterminant
les zones d’hypotension et d’hypertension. Cette norme constitue toutefois
uniquement une directive générale étant donné que la tension individuelle varie
d’une personne à l’autre et d’un groupe à l’autre, etc.
Il est important que vous consultiez votre médecin régulièrement. Votre
médecin vous indiquera la plage normale de votre tension, ainsi que le point à
partir duquel vous présentez des risques.
